CITY OF ENCINITAS YOUTH COMMISSION
JUNE 07, 2023 4:30 P.M., 505 S. VULCAN AVENUE, ENCINITAS, CA
1. CALL TO ORDER
Vice-Chair Gonzalez called the meeting to order at 4:31 P.M.
2. ROLL CALL
Present: Vice-Chair Gonzalez and Commissioners Ca. Ballow, Co. Ballow, Junus,
Rohatgi, and Su.
Also Present: Recreation Services Manager Hamer, Recreation Supervisor Anderson,
Recreation Supervisor Muse, and Management Analyst Fisher.
Absent: Chair Ruppert and Commissioners Leschensky and Viemeister.

4. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS AND PROCLAMATIONS
4A. City of Encinitas Senior Citizen Commission Chair, Lambert Ling
Senior Citizen Commission Chair Ling thanked commissioners for successfully
collaborating with the Senior Citizen Commission for intergenerational programming
during the past year. He congratulated the graduating seniors and is looking forward to
commissioners.
4B. City of Encinitas Special Events and Projects Supervisor, Nick Buck & League of
American Bicyclists Certified Instructor, Kristine Schindler
Nick Buck and Kristine Schindler presented on electric bicycles and how the City is
adapting to the growing usage by offering educational resources and programming.
They went in-depth into where to access resources and what the
monthly programs teach participants at the community center.
4C. City of Encinitas Recreation Supervisor II and Youth Commission Staff Liaison,
Parker Anderson
Supervisor Anderson congratulated the Commissioners for reaching the end of the term
and presented certificates of completion to each commissioner.
5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS/POSSIBLE DIRECTION TO STAFF
Joanna Gorman spoke as Outreach and Youth Services Librarian at the Encinitas Library,
and she shared an update on youth services programming at the library.
Kelly McCormick congratulated the commissioners for completing the term and thanked
them for their service to the City.

9A. Department Updates Recreation Services Manager Hamer
Manager Hamer began by thanking the commissioners for their service to the City. Then

enlisting volunteers at Art Night on June 3. Upcoming events for commissioners to
attend during summer include Dog Day of Summer, the Summer Concert series at
Moonlight Beach, and Wednesday at noon concerts at the library. Lastly, the department

is presenting a proclamation to City Council on June 28 to recognize July being
national Parks and Recreation month.
