1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Ling called the meeting to order at 2:03 P.M.
2. ROLL CALL
Present: Chair Ling, Commissioners Hanwit, Martin, Tobias, and Koblentz.
Absent: Commissioners Angel and Farley
Also Present: Manager Goodsell, Manager Hamer, and Management Analyst Gilliam.
There being a quorum present, the meeting was in order.

4A. Cary Z. Joel, DNP, AGPCNP-BC, ACHPN, Scripps Encinitas Hospital Inpatient Palliative Medicine Group,
Palliative Care
Ms. Joel provided a presentation to the Commission and explained what palliative care is and how to request it
from a medical provider. She also discussed symptoms management, pain management and advanced
planning.

MINUTES, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER HANWIT. MOTION CARRIED. AYES: HANWIT, KOBLENTZ,
MARTIN, LING, TOBIAS. NAYS: NONE. ABSTAIN: NONE. ABSENT: ANGEL AND FARLEY.

8A. Senior Citizen Commission FY 23/24 Annual Work Plan
Chair Ling led the discussion regarding the FY 23/24 Annual Work Plan
9. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
9A. Senior Center Operations Report, Recreation Center Manager Christie Goodsell
Manager Goodsell provided updates regarding Center operations. She shared that the I Love a Clean San
Diego Zero Waste event will be held on June 24 at the EUSD Farm Lab.
9B. Department Updates – Recreation Services Manager Margaret Hamer
Manager Hamer shared that Art Night was held on June 3, summer concerts at Moonlight Beach will begin in
July. Summer Dog Days of Summer takes place on Sunday, July 16 from 10am – 3pm. She also shared that
July is National Parks and Recreation month and at the June 28 Council Meeting, there will be a video
presented showcasing the services that the PRCA department offers.
