CITY OF ENCINITAS YOUTH COMMISSION

1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Ruppert called the meeting to order at 4:30 P.M.
2. ROLL CALL
Present: Chair Ruppert, Vice-Chair Gonzalez and Commissioners Ca. Ballow, Co. Ballow,
Junus, Leschensky, Rohatgi, Su and Viemeister.
Also Present: Recreation Center Manager Goodsell, Recreation Supervisor Anderson,
and Management Analyst Fisher.
Absent: None.

4A. San Diego North County Food Project Director, Jesse Hanwit
Director Hanwit presented to the commission about North County San Diego Food
Project and the mission of door-to-door food collection to combat food insecurity.
Volunteer opportunities were shared with commissioners for those interested in
becoming involved in the mission.
5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS/POSSIBLE DIRECTION TO STAFF
Kelly McCormick spoke to the commissioners about the harms of substance abuse.

Commissioners discussed the two proposed mission statements from the Ad-Hoc
Committee:
1. The Encinitas Youth Commission integrates the voice of youth into local politics
by exploring youth-related issues and concerns and instills in its members skills such as
diligence and leadership by collaborating with others to assist members of this community.
2. The
of issues that concern the youth of this city and collaborate with others to plan and execute
community programs that support city interconnectedness and help to foster relationships
between members of Encinitas.

9. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
9A. Department Updates Recreation Center Manager Goodsell
Manager Goodsell began her update by sharing that the Spring / Summer Camp
recreation program guide is currently in progress and classes will open for registration

on March 6 at 8 AM. At the Community Center, staff is seeking volunteers to assist with
the senior nutrition program. Upcoming special events include Art Night on March 4th
th
and the Egg Hunt April 8. Lastly, Manager Goodsell encouraged commissioners to
th
attend the Arts Commission meeting on February 6 to discuss future arts programming.

11. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS ADDED BY COMMISSION MEMBERS
Commissioner Viemeister and Commissioner Ca. Ballow initiated a future agenda item to
the March regular meeting for a presentation on mental health.
