2022-06-21 MINUTES OF THE ENCINITAS SENIOR CITIZENCOMMISSIONMEETING JUNE 21, 2022, 2:00 P.M. REGULAR MEETING 505 SOUTH VULCAN AVENUE, ENCINITAS, CA 92024 1. CALL TO ORDER Vice Chair Angel called the meeting to order at 2:06 P.M. 2. ROLL CALL Present: Vice-Chair Angel, and Commissioners Farley, Hanwit, Kramer-Levander, Koblentz, and Martin Absent: Chair Ling Also Present: Recreation Center Manager Goodsell, Recreation Services Manager Stayton, and Management Analyst Gilliam. There being a quorum present, the meeting was in order. 3. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 4. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS AND PROCLAMATION Senior Services Coordinator, Clinton Calkins, Senior Nutrition Program Coordinator Calkins introduced himself and provided his professional background. He shared updates regarding the status of the programs offered for senior nutrition. He also shared information regarding plans for future senior programming. 5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS / POSSIBLE DIRECTION TO STAFF None. 6. CHANGES TO THE AGENDA None. 7. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Approval of the May 17, 2022 regular meeting minutes. ACTION COMMISSIONER HANWIT MOVED APPROVAL OF THE MAY 17, 2022 REGULAR MEETING MINUTES, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER KOBLENTZ. MOTION CARRIED. AYES: ANGEL, HANWIT, FARLEY, KOBLENTZ, MARTIN. NAYS: NONE. ABSENT: LING. ABSTAIN: KRAMER-LEVANDER. 8. ACTION ITEMS 8A. Senior Citizen Commission Annual Work Plan Review. Vice Chair Angel led the discussion regarding the FY2022/23 Senior Citizen Commission Work Plan. The Commissioners held discussions regarding various workplan items. 8B. Senior of the Year/Lifetime Achievement Award Program. ACTION COMMISSIONER KOBLENTZ MOVED APPROVAL OF THE AD HOC COMMITTEE’S RECOMMENDATION FOR THE SENIOR OF THE YEAR AND LIFETEIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNER. SECOND BY COMMISSIONER KRAMER. MOTION CARRIED. REGULAR MEETING 505 SOUTH VULCAN AVENUE, ENCINITAS, CA 92024 9. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS 9A. Senior Center Operations Report and Department Updates. Recreation Center Manager Goodsell provided updates for the department, Senior Center programs and services, and the Nutrition Program. She shared that the last piece of the fitness equipment was installed. The three pool tables are scheduled to be resurfaced. There is a current recruitment open for a full time Recreation th Supervisor for Senior Services. The Summer Concert Series held at Moonlight Beach begins on July 10 and thrd on July 24. The concerts run from 3:00pm – 5:00pm. The next Art Night will be held on Saturday, July 23 from 5:30pm-8:30pm. Recreation Services Manager Stayton shared that the summer camps officially began this week. The majority of the summer camps are full and have wait lists. Staff is currently working on the fall recreation guide. It will be th published digitally this fall. Registration for fall programming is scheduled to open on August 15. 10. COMMISSION MEMBER INITIATED AGENDA ITEM None. 11. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS ADDED BY COMMISSION MEMBERS There was a consensus between Commissioners Koblentz and Martin to add an agenda item regarding having thank you cards sent to the Senior of the Year and Lifetime Achievement nominees and nominors. There was a consensus between Commissioners Angel and Hanwit to update the letter of encouragement related to Universal Design. There was a consensus between Commissioners Angel and Farley to update the Senior Awards nomination forms. 12.
