CITY OF ENCINITAS YOUTH COMMISSION

1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Ruppert called the meeting to order at 4:34 P.M.
2. ROLL CALL
Present: Chair Ruppert, Vice-Chair Gonzalez and Commissioners Ca. Ballow, Co. Ballow,
Junus, Leschensky, Su and Viemeister.
Also Present: Recreation Services Manager Stayton, Recreation Supervisor Anderson,
and Management Analyst Fisher.
Absent: Chair Rohatgi.

4A. San Diego Botanic Garden
Joe DeWolf discussed the Science and Conservation Program at the San Diego Botanic
Garden. The presentation highlighted current projects by the San Diego Botanic Garden,
5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS/POSSIBLE DIRECTION TO STAFF
April Smith from the Encinitas Library spoke to the commission about participation
opportunities at the library for chess programming, comic illustration, toys for tots and a
possible food drive.
Kelly McCormick from San Dieguito Alliance for Drug Free Youth updated the commission
about current efforts by the Environmental Commission to create an ordinance banning
smoking in public places.

Commissioners reviewed the Youth Commission Work Plan goals and discussed Ad-hoc
Committee reports and updates.
9. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
9A. Department Updates Recreation Services Manager Stayton
Manager Stayton discussed department updates with the commissioners. She began by
announcing that registration for winter season recreation programming opened on

December 5. Other upcoming dates to note includes the Holiday Choir on December
ththth
10, a Nutcracker Ballet on December 17 and Cyclovia on January 8. Manager
Stayton also shared news about the Cultural Arts Division, which includes a new Arts
Supervisor starting in January and an art installation that is currently taking place at the
Encinitas Boulevard undercrossing.
