8A. Pacific View Programming Committee
Arts Administrator Murphy provided clarification regarding the makeup and purpose of the Pacific View
Programming Committee. Commissioners Lees, Corrales-Schmitt and Valenzuela volunteered to join
the committee. Commissioner Abraham volunteered to be an alternate.

8B. Commission for the Arts Work Plan
Chair Corrales-Schmitt led the discussion regardingthe FY 2022-23Commission for the Arts Work
Plan. Discussion tookplace on items withupdates to be shared.Therewere some minor revisions
regarding Ad Hoc Committee members.

INFORMATIONALITEMS
9A.Director’s Report–Parks,Recreation andCultural Arts Director Karlen
Director Karlen shared that the RFP for the Cottonwood Creek Park Host has closed. Two candidates
,
are beinginterviewed for that position. The final proposed budget is going to City Council on June 15,

2022for adoption.The CommunityGrant ProgramPanel’sawardrecommendationswill be presented
to Councilon June 15, 2022with additional funding for Council Members to allocate at the meeting.
Summer programs are starting in June, includinga few arts programs. Director Karlen shared that
Crystal Roff, the department’s Senior Management Analyst,retiredlast weekafter 15 years of service.
9B. CulturalArts DivisionReport–ArtsAdministrator Murphy
Arts Administrator Murphy shared that the new art exhibitions will be installed during the week of June
27and will be included in July’s Art Night. Staff has begun workingon the Dia de los Muertos event.
The Passport to Persian Calligraphy event is taking place on June 18, 2022.

Commissioner Lees shared that EFA has receiveda $30,000 grant that will go towards administrative
expenses such as a grant writer. EFA will be holding a Persian Calligraphyevent coming up on June
18, 2022 at the EncinitasCommunity Centerand the EncinitasFlea Market will be held at Pacific View
School site on July23, 2022 sponsored by Cal Coast Bank and The San Dieguito ArtGuild.

Vice Chair Valenzuela provided some background regarding the program and shared that he attended
the budget meeting.He recommendedthat the Commission for theArts provide a letter of support for
theCounty of San Diego Office of Economic Developmentand Government Affairs’initiatives.
