2022-11-02 REGULAR MEETING MINUTES CITY OF ENCINITAS YOUTH COMMISSION NOVEMBER 2, 2022 4:30 P.M., 505 S. VULCAN AVENUE, ENCINITAS, CA 1. CALL TO ORDER Vice-Chair Gonzalez called the meeting to order at 4:34 P.M. 2. ROLL CALL Present: Vice-Chair Gonzalez and Commissioners Ca. Ballow, Co. Ballow, Junus, Leschensky, Rohatgi and Su. Also Present: Recreation Services Manager Stayton, Recreation Supervisor Anderson, and Management Analyst Fisher. Absent: Chair Ruppert and Commissioner Viemeister. 3. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 4. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS AND PROCLAMATIONS None 5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS/POSSIBLE DIRECTION TO STAFF Kelly McCormick from San Dieguito Alliance for Drug Free Youth spoke to the commission about Red Ribbon Week in October and efforts to raise awareness of drug prevention. April Smith from the Encinitas Library spoke to the commission about youth involvement in voter registration, teen programming at the library, and future volunteer opportunities. 6. VULCAN AVENUE, ENCINITAS, CA 8B. Youth Commission Mission Statement Development Commissioners engaged in an activity to develop ideas for a Youth Commission mission statement. Recess initiated at 4:47 PM, reconvened at 5:11 PM and Commissioners discussed results for the ad-hoc committee to draft a mission statement. 9. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS 9A. Department Updates Recreation Services Manager Stayton Manager Stayton began by sharing City events that occurred at the end of October including the Pacific View groundbreaking and Día de los Muertos events. Then she th shared upcoming events such as Art Night on November 19 and the Holiday Parade on rd December 3 and she encouraged commissioner attendance. Lastly, staff is working on th finalizing the winter season recreation guide with December 5 as the expected date to open registration for winter courses. 10.
