CITY OF ENCINITAS YOUTH COMMISSION
JUNE 1, 2022 4:30 P.M., 505 S. VULCAN AVENUE, ENCINITAS, CA
1. CALL TO ORDER
Commissioner Ruppert called the meeting to order at 4:33 P.M.
2. ROLL CALL
Present: Commissioners C. Colombo, Gonzalez, Junus, Leschensky (4:36), Ruppert and
Su. There is one vacancy
Also Present: Recreation Services Manager Stayton, Recreation Supervisor Anderson,
and Management Analyst Fisher.
Absent: Commissioners Pacheco and G. Colombo.

Kelly McCornick spoke about Start Smart driver classes for San Dieguito Union High
School District.

COMMISSIONER RUPPERT MOVED APPROVAL OF THE MAY 4, 2022 REGULAR
YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER
LESCHENSKY, AND THE MOTION CARRIED 6-0 (ABSENT: COMMISSIONER
PACHECO AND G. COLOMBO. ONE VACANCY).
8. ACTION ITEMS
8A. FY 2021-2022 Youth Commission Work Plan
Commissioner Ruppert led the Commissioners through the work plan for progress updates
and review of outcomes.
9. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
9A. Department Updates Recreation Services Manager Stayton
Manager Stayton provided department updates including the preparation of summer
programs and the success of Movie Night on May 14th. The latter included staff
conducting an Arts and Economic Prosperity Survey to review economic benefits of
cultural arts events. There was also an announcement of a proclamation for Parks &
Recreation Month to be presented to City Council on June 22nd.
