COE_Olivenhain-Trunk-Sewer_UpdateFlyer_4.22.21FACT SHEET 505 South Vulcan Avenue Encinitas, CA 92024 760.633.2600 | encinitasca.gov EENNCCIINNIITTAA SS AATT WW OORRKK Olivenhain Trunk Sewer Improvements Project ABOUT THE PROJECT The Olivenhain Trunk Sewer project extends between I-5 and Lone Jack Road along Manchester Avenue and Escondido Creek in the Olivenhain community of Encinitas. The project will upsize 2,500 feet of sewer pipeline and line 54 manholes. The existing 1970’s sewer line extends roughly 4 miles on City roads, San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy land, County of San Diego land, and private property. The existing manholes along the sewer line have deteriorated over time. This allows water to infiltrate the sewer pipeline during heavy rain which can overwhelm the treatment system or potentially cause a spill. Phase 1 completes sewer improvements within City right of way. Future phases will complete work outside City right of way, as easements are procured. BENEFITS • Lining manholes prevents rain runoff from entering sewer lines. • Obtaining easements will ensure access to all sewer line components for inspections and maintenance. • Increaseing the size of the sewer line to provide additional system capacity to support new connections. 505 South Vulcan Avenue Encinitas, CA 92024 760.633.2600 | encinitasca.gov EENNCCIINNIITTAA SS AATT WW OORRKK UPCOMING MILESTONES Phase 1: Construction on City right of way • Construction completion: October 2021 Phase 1A: Lining Sewer Manholes via Temporary Construction Easement • Construction start: July 2021 • Construction completion: December 2021 Phases 2 and 3 require permanent easements. Their construction start dates will be determined once right of way is secured. *All dates are approximate and subject to change. Last updated April 2021. • PROJECT BUDGET The estimated cost for planning, design, and construction is approximately $8 million, including $3 million designated for Phase 1 improvements. The project is fully funded by the Cardiff Sanitation District. CONTACT US For questions or concerns about the project, please contact Matt Widelski, Senior Engineer at: mwidelski@encinitasca.gov or 760-633-2862 PROJECT STATUS The construction team has installed 600 feet of 15-inch sewer main from Escondido Creek to the creek crossing at Lone Jack Road along El Camino Del Norte. In addition, approximately 60 feet of sewer pipe was added using a jack and bore method. The jack and bore method enables the team to install the new pipes without disrupting roadways. Along with the sewer line improvements, six new manholes were installed along the new line. The project team will continue to test and monitor the new pipes and manholes. During May, residents should expect construction to begin along Lone Jack Road. The project team will implement flagging once Lone Jack Road shifts to single lane traffic. Phase 1 construction is scheduled to be completed in October 2021. The project team will continue to update the community as progress continues.
