MINUTES OF THE ENCINITAS SENIOR CITIZENCOMMISSIONMEETING
OCTOBER 15, 2019, 2:00 P.M., 505 SOUTH VULCAN AVENUE
1. CALL TO ORDER
Commissioner Lerchbacker called the meeting to order at 2:02 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Present: Commissioners Lerchbacker, Powell, Angel, Lennox, Schnack, Stewart and one
vacancy
Also Present: Parks and Recreation Director Campbell, Senior Center Manager Goodsell,
Recreation Services Manager Karlen, and Management Analyst Colombo
Absent: None
There being a quorum present, the meeting was in order.

4. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS AND PROCLAMATION
4A. Parks and Recreation Director, Jennifer Campbell
Parks and Recreation Director Campbell provided updates on the launch of the Easy2Hike free
app which can be accessed through smartphones and allows users to locate and view trails,
park maps and points of interest. Solicitation of new park names for the Standard Pacific Park
site has commenced. Director Campbell informed the Commission potential names are being
accepted from October 14, 2019 through November 1, 2019. Names will be provided to the
Parks and Recreation Commission for review and their recommendation will be provided to the
City Council in December 2019 for consideration. Director Campbell also announced that all
planned shade structure installations at playgrounds have been completed. In addition,
Director Campbell indicated that the Maggie Houlihan Dog Park is currently closed for
scheduled maintenance for the month of October in order to reseed and tend to the parks
ongoing maintenance program. She also indicated that alternative off leash dog park schedules
can be accessed on the City website. It was also announced that the Holiday Parade will be

on December 7, 2019 with the following theme: Encinitas on the Move. Director Campbell
indicated that the City looks forward to the participation of all Commissions in the Holiday
Parade.
4B. Lead Intergenerational Coordinator for North County HHSA, Martha Guzman
Lead Intergenerational Coordinator Guzman was unable to attend the meeting.
5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS / POSSIBLE DIRECTION TO STAFF
Public Speaker Kristine Schindler spoke to the Commission on a free course she teaches on a
fall prevention program for senior citizens called Matter of Balance Fall Prevention.
6. CHANGES TO THE AGENDA
Senior Center Manager Goodsell announced that Lead Intergenerational Coordinator Guzman
would like to attend a future meeting to provide a special presentation to the Commission.

7. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
Management Analyst Colombo announced a staff update of the September 17, 2019 meeting
minutes; clarifying Item 4A on the CPRS Grant which partially helped pay for the replacement
of the playground at Moonlight Beach and did not pay for the entire replacement of the
playground.
