CALL TO ORDER Chair Bruhahn called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. 2. Focus Area: Encinitas Fire Commissioners Sakai and Vitenson reported on the Day in the 12 Department Life of a Firefighter event held February 9, 2019. Focus Area: Zero Waste / Food Commissioner Drewelow attended with the event on March 26, 13 Recycling Program 2019. Focus Area: Attend a minimum of Commissioner Bruhahn attended the Moonlight Beach Bash. two City Sponsored Events Commissioner Kulick attended the Holiday Parade. Commissioner Sakai attended the Egg Hunt. Supervisor Rundle 14 asked for additional volunteers to help with an additional upcoming event and Manager Karlen encouraged anyone who has not participated in an event to consider volunteering at the May — Movie in the Park Event. MR Focus Area: Sea Level Rise Dr. Tim Lueker, Scripps Institute of Oceanography Community 1 Subcommittee Outreach for Public Education (SCOPE), presented on sea level rise on March 6, 2019. Focus Area: EV Charging Station 2 Manager Karlen provided an update on the EV Charging Station. Focus Area: Coastal Science Dr. Christopher Lowe, Cal State Long Beach Shark Lab 3 Education Program presented "Shark Shacks" on April 3, 2019. 4 Focus Area: Urban Forestry Commissioners Schneider, Tommy and Tyler Yarbrough attended the April 13, 2019 Arbor Day event. Focus Area: Buffer Bike Lanes Traffic Engineering Specialist Edgeworth presented City of 5 Encinitas bike lanes information at the May 1, 2019 Regular Youth Commission Meeting. Focus Area: Standard Pacific Commissioner Bruhahn attended the September 25, 2018 6 Park Site skate /bike spot element design meeting. Focus Area: Intergenerational Supervisor Rundle requested Commissioners Bruhahn, Muir and 7 Recreation Programming Sakai to help develop a program idea for next year. Focus Area: 1 -5 North Project Commissioners Tommy Yarbrough, Tyler Yarbrough, Dane 8 Bruhahn and Muri attended to assist with the project on January 2, 2019. 9 Focus Area: School District No update. p Liaison Committee Focus Area: Beacon's Beach Bluff 10 Improvement Project No update. Youth Commission votes to appoint a Youth Commissioner to serve on the Evaluation Panel for the Community Grant Program. ACTION COMMISSIONER VITENSON EXPRESSED INTEREST TO SERVE ON THE EVALUATION PANEL FOR THE COMMUNITY GRANT PROGRAM. COMMISSIONER GALLOWAY MOVED APPROVAL TO APPOINT COMMISSIONER VITENSON TO SERVE ON THE EVALUATION PANEL FOR THE COMMUNITY GRANT PROGRAM, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER GILLIGAN, AND THE MOTION CARRIED 7 -0. (COMMISSIONERS DREWELOW, SAKAI, MUIR AND KULICK WERE ABSENT.) 9. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS 9A. Department Updates — Manager Karlen Manager Karlen announced summer registration opens May 20, 2019 and the new Summer Recreation Guide will be mailed out soon to households. He also indicated that there are job opportunities for summer staff at the Seaside Day Camp, Community Center and Senior Center, and these opportunities can be applied for through the City of Encinitas website. Summer field allocations for youth sports group organizations are managed by Supervisor Hernandez, and the next Youth Sports Field Allocation Meeting will be held May 28, 2019. This meeting serves to determine what fields the youth groups need to run their sports organizations. It was announced again that volunteers are being accepted for the Movies in the Park event on May 11, 2019; and the Summer Concert Series begins in July at Moonlight Beach. 9B. Important upcoming meeting dates and announcements — Supervisor Rundle Supervisor Rundle announced the last Youth Commission meeting for this term is next month, (June, 2019). He indicated that the Mayor and City Council will be appointing Youth Commissioners soon for the next term beginning in September. In addition, current outgoing Commissioners will be sent an evaluation to obtain recommendations and feedback for future Youth Commissions. 10. COMMISSION MEMBER INITIATED AGENDA ITEM None 11.
