Commissioner Powellcalledthe meeting to order at 2:00p.m.

There being a quorum present, the meeting was in order.

4A.Development Director of Alzheimer’s San Diego, Michelle Van Hoff appointed CEO
EugeniaWelch to speak on her behalf. Alzheimer’s San Diego is a local non-profit
organization that provides services for the entire San Diego County whose mission is to help
families live well with dementia while also trying to work to find a cure.
4B. Manager of the Encinitas Library, Jayne Henn provided an overview of programs and
services offered by the San Diego County Library, Encinitas Branch.

8.ACTIONITEMS
8A.Senior CitizenCommission Chair and Vice Chair
Commissioner Lerchbacker opened the floor for nominations for Chair. Commissioner Powell
nominated Commissioner Lerchbacker for Chair and Commissioner Lennox supported the
nomination. Commissioner Stewart nominated herself for Chair and Commissioner
Schneiderman supported the nomination. Commissioners voted 4-2 (Commissioner Stewart
receiving two votes) to appoint Commissioner Lerchbacker as Chair (Commissioner Vance
was absent).
Commissioner Lerchbacker opened the floor for nominations for Vice Chair. Commissioner
Schnack nominated Commissioner Powell and Commissioner Lerchbacker supported the
nomination. Commissioner Powell nominated Commissioner Lennox and Commissioner
Lerchbacker supported the nomination. Commissioners voted 5-1 (Commissioner Lennox
receiving one vote) to appoint Commissioner Powell as Vice Chair (Commissioner Vance was
absent).
8B. Senior Awards Program
Commissioners voted and nominee Sharon Cooper was selected to receive the Service to
Seniors Award receiving six votes and nominee Quayle was selected to receive the Senior
Citizen of the Year award receiving four votes.
8C. Senior Citizen Commission Proposed Meeting Dates FY 19-20
Commissioner Lerchbacker announced that the proposed dates and times are the same as in
the past with the exception of adding a meeting in August.
ACTION
Commissioner Powell moved to adopt the FY 2019-20 Senior Citizen Commission
proposed meeting dates, second by Commissioner Schneiderman, and the motion
carried 6-0 (Commissioner Vance was absent).
8D. Senior Citizen Commission Annual Work Plan
No additional information was provided for the FY 2018-19 Work Plan.
8E. Community Grant Program Evaluation Panel
Commissioner Powell nominated Commissioner Stewart to serve on the panel and
Commissioner Lennox supported the nomination. The Commission unanimously supported
Commissioner Stewart serving on the panel.
9.INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
9A. Senior Center Operations Report.
Senior Center Manager Goodsell providedanupdate on Senior Center programsandprovided
a statistical comparison from March 2017 –February 2018 against March 2018 -February
th
2019. The Spring Egg Hunt will be held on April 20at Encinitas Community Park and the
Commissioners were asked to volunteer at the event. The Commissioners were asked to think
about the goals they would like to implement for the FY 19-20 work plan. The Volunteer
Appreciation Party will take place on April 23, 2019 at the Encinitas Community and Senior
Center.
9B. Computer Lab/Living Room Update
Senior Center Manager Goodsell provided a history and update regarding changes related to
the computer lab/living room.
Speakers Donald Laufer (passed), Tom Tindel and Gregory Neville spoke regarding the
Computer Lab.

Commissioner Lennoxspoke about the Death Café in partnership with the Encinitas Library.
