CITY OF ENCINITAS YOUTH COMMISSION
December 5, 2018 4:30 P.M., 505 S. VULCAN AVENUE, ENCINITAS, CA
1. CALL TO ORDER
Commissioner Muir called the meeting to order at 4:34 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Present: Commissioners Drewelow, Vitenson (arriving at 4:47 p.m.), Muir, Galloway,
Kulick, Tyler Yarbrough, and Sakai
Also Present: Staff Liaison Rundle, Recreation Services Manager Karlen, and
Management Analyst Morrow
Absent: Bruhahn, Gilligan, Schneider, and Tommy Yarbrough

SCHNEIDER, AND TOMMY YARBROUGH WERE ABSENT.)

Commissioner Kulick reported on the Encinitas Holiday Parade.

Staff Liaison Rundle announced two upcoming events and requested
Commissioner participation:
Day in the Life of a Firefighter, February 9, Fire Station 5
State of the City event, March 26, Encinitas Community and Senio
Center Commissioners are asked to help with food waste recycling.
9. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
9A.Department Updates Manager Karlen
Manager Karlen thanked Commissioner Muir for starting the meeting.
Karlen thanked Commissioner Kulick for his participation in the Holiday
Parade and reported on the behind the scenes work to make the Parade
happen.
Manager Karlen reported the first ever Sweethearts Dance will
the Encinitas Community and Senior Center on February 15, 2019. This
will be an all ages, family friendly event. The Spring Egg Hunt will be
Saturday, April 20. Manager Karlen asked Commissioners to volunteer at
both events.
Karlen gave an update on Department staffing changes and indicat
work on the two-year budget is underway.
9B. January 2, 2019 Youth Commission meeting Supervisor Rundle
Staff Liaison Rundle inquired about anticipated Commissioner attendance
at the January 2, 2019 regularly scheduled Youth Commission Meet
was determined there would not be a quorum. Rundle asked for
anticipated attendance if the meeting were changed to January 9, 2019.

12. COMMISSION REPORTS
Commissioners provided informational updates on youth related to
Manager Karlen asked for a motion to move the regularly scheduled January 2 meeting
to January 9 in order to meet a quorum.
