2018-10-30 SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES OF THE ENCINITAS SENIOR CITIZENCOMMISSIONSPECIALMEETING OCTOBER 30,2018,2:00P.M., 505 SOUTH VULCAN AVENUE 1.CALL TO ORDER Commissioner Lerchbackercalledthe meeting to order at 2:00p.m. 2.ROLL CALL Present:CommissionersPowell, Schnack, Lerchbacker, Stewart, Schneiderman and Lennox. Also Present:SeniorCenter Manager Goodsell,Director Campbell, Recreation Services Manager Karlen and Program Assistant Gilliam Absent: Commissioner Vance There being a quorum present, the meeting was in order. 3.PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 4.SPECIALPRESENTATIONS AND PROCLAMATION 4A.Cancelled as presenters unable to attend. 4B.President of Patrons of Encinitas Parks, Sanford Shapiro, Go Fund Me Dance Floor Fundraiser. Mr. Shapiro addressed the Commission regarding the ongoing efforts to raise money to replace the dance floor at the Encinitas Community and Senior Center. 4C. Encinitas Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department Director Campbell thanked Mr. Shapiro and the members of PEP for all the work theyare doing for the community. Updates were provided regarding the Standard Pacific Park site, trail projects, Moonlight Beach Bash thst occurred on September 29,the Encinitas Holiday Parade will take place on December 1, the winter brochure will be published the first week of December, shade contracts have been signed for Leo Mullen Sports Park, Encinitas Community Park and Sun Vista Park, two year budget cycle has begun for FY19/20 and FY20/21, staff changes involved the retirement of Community Center Manager Derrick Monroe and Recreation Supervisor Brian Thill went to work for the City of San Marcos, and the Department is working with PEP for the dance floor replacement. 5.ORAL COMMUNICATIONS/ POSSIBLE DIRECTION TO STAFF None 6.CHANGES TO THE AGENDA None ACTION COMMISSIONER POWELLMOVEDAPPROVAL OFTHE OCTOBER 30,2018MEETING AGENDA, SECOND BY COMMISSIONERLENNOX, AND THE MOTION CARRIED 6-0. 7.APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES 7A.Approval of the September 18,2018regularmeeting minutes ACTION COMMISSIONER POWELLMOVEDAPPROVAL OF THE September18,2018 REGULARMEETING MINUTES,SECOND BY COMMISSIONER SCHNACK,AND THE MOTION CARRIED6-0. 8.ACTIONITEMS 8A.Senior Center Commission Annual Work Plan Goals and Outcomes Goal 1 –No updates ndth Goal 2 –Exposure Skate will be held at Encinitas Community Park November 2–4, st Encinitas Holiday Parade will be held on December 1at 5:30 p.m. Goal 3 –No updates Goal 4 –No updates Goal 5 –No updates Goal 6 –Commissioner Schneidermanrequested report onsenior pedestrianincidents in the City over the past five years.Commissioner Powell stated she has some parties interested in becoming Out and About volunteer drivers. Commissioner Schnack stated they have reached out to Julian Duval about being a spokesperson for theOut and About program. Goal 7 –Commissioner Lennox reported there was a good turnout to theDeath Café.Encinitas Library would like to offer more Death Cafes. Furniture quotes for Senior Center Multipurpose Room have been received. Goal 8 –CommissionerSchnackwill be visiting the San Marcos Foundation for Senior Wellbeing and the San Marcos Senior Center. Commissioner Powellattendedthe workshop for Advance Healthcare Planning held at the Encinitas Senior Center and encouraged all the commissioners to attend. 9.INFORMATIONAL ITEMS 9A.
