Chair Stefanko called the meeting to order at 5:03 p.m.

ACTION
COMMISSIONER LEES MOVED APPROVAL OF THE JULY 9, 2018 SPECIAL
MEETING MINUTES, SECOND BY COMMISIONER SABECK, AND THE MOTION
CARRIED 3-0. (COMMISSIONERS SCHMITT, ABRAHAM AND FILSINGER WERE
ABSENT AND COMMISSIONER SIMS ABSTAINED.)

Action Items
8A. Commission for the Arts Work Plan
Staff liaison Gilliam led the discussion on the work plan. Commissioners reviewed and
discussed the public art I-5 undercrossing projects and applications.
ACTION
COMMISSIONER SABECK MOVED TO APPROVE THE ARTIST APPLICATIONS
WITH CHANGES, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER SIMS, AND THE MOTION
CARRIED 4-0. (COMMISSIONERS ABRAHAM, FILSINGER AND SCHMITT WERE
ABSENT.)
Commission discussion included adding public art professionals to the Public Art Ad-Hoc
Committee, the location of the sculpture pedestals, and the October 6, 2018 dedication
of the sculpture, Orpheus, at the K Street Parkway in downtown Encinitas.

9C. Encinitas Friends of the Arts (EFA) Report
Staff Liaison Gilliam announced the Leichtag Commons is this year’s location for the
annual Encinitas Friends of the Arts Board Retreat.
9D. Cultural Arts Division Report
Staff Liaison Gilliam reported there were 170 attendees at the recent
Wednesdays@Noon concert, The ACE Trio will perform tango music at the September
14 performance as part of the Music By The Sea concert series, and the Moonlight
Beach Bash pop-up arts festival takes place on Saturday, September 29 from 2:00 p.m.
to 5:00 p.m.
