COMMISSIONER FILSINGER ABSTAINED.)

Action Items
8A. Commission for the Arts Work Plan
Staff liaison Gilliam reviewed the 2018/19Work Plan and requested the Commission
moveapproval.
Work Plan Item 4
Public Speaker Mr. Garth Murphy with Encinitas Arts Culture and Ecology Alliance
(EACEA) addressed the Commission regarding the request to have an Arts
Commissioner serve on the EACEA board. Mr. Murphy reported the board is not
accepting new members at this time.
Commissioners agreed to have item four of the workplan removed and Commissioner
Abraham requested EACEA Board reportsfrom Director Campbell.

Work Plan Item 6
Staff liaison Gilliam provided the Commission with Arts Plan surveys from the cities of
Oceanside, Carlsbad and Decatur for review. The Commission discussion included
having the Ad-Hoc committee meet and bring specific information forward.
Commissioner Filsinger reported on the use of data analytics to show community
benefit. Commissioner Less requested information from the Cultural Tourism
Committee.

Informational Items
9A. Commissioner Calendar for June
Staff Liaison Gilliam reviewed the June calendar and reported the Community Grant
Program allocations will take place at the June 13, 2018 council meeting.
9B.Public Art Report
Staff LiaisonGilliam provided updates on the K Street project, the J Street Humanity
project, the Moaiproject, the Pacific Playground and the Cal Trans undercrossings
projects at Santa Fe and Encinitas Blvd.
9C. Encinitas Friends of the Arts Report
Staff Liaison Gilliam reported that new board members joined Encinitas Friends of the
Arts.
9D. Cultural Arts Division
Staff Liaison Gilliam provided updates on the iPalpiti Festival, the orchestra concert at
Saint Andrew’sChurch and Encinitas Library, and the San Dieguito Union School
District,district art plan committee.
