(COMMISSIONERKUTAWASABSENT.) 8. Action Items 8A. Appoint a Commissioner to serve on the Evaluation Panel for the Community Grant Program. Contact Person: Chair Thum. ACTION CHAIRTHUMMOVED TO APPOINT COMMISSIONER ABRAHAMTO SERVE ON THE EVALUATION PANEL FOR THE COMMUNITY GRANT PROGRAM,SECOND BY COMMISIONER SABECK, AND THE MOTION CARRIED 6-0. (COMMISSIONER KUTAWASABSENT.) 9. Informational Items 9A. Art Night 2018/19 Discussion. Arts Program Administrator Gilliam gave an update on the 2018/2019City of Encinitas exhibit schedule which canallow for six ‘Art Night’ opening receptions. The proposed openings are planned to be held on Saturdays from 6–9 pm, and can include participation by local art galleries, and other exhibits in the community. 9B. Public Art Report. Arts Program Administrator Gilliamreported three public art projects have been completed.The glass mosaic, Pacific Playground, at the Marine Safety Center, has been installed, the Moonlight Beach Tribute Benchwas unveiled onMarch 3, with more than 100people in attendance, and thewoodcarving, Easter Island Head II, at Swami’s Seaside Park, has been completed. 9C. Cultural Arts Division Report. Arts Program Administrator Gilliamannounced newCommissioners will be appointed by the City Council onMarch 14 and will take their oath of office at the April meeting. The new Chair and Vice Chair will be elected at the regular April Commission meeting. Gilliam indicated he will bring aMemorandum of Understanding for Encinitas Friends of the Arts and iPalpiti Artists International, to the City Council on March 21.Gilliam reported 30 keys have been sold as part of the ‘88 Key Fundraising Campaign’ for a new grand piano for the Encinitas Community & Senior Center. The campaign will wrap up at the end of March; keys may be purchased for $300 at www.encinitasarts.org. 9D. Commission-sponsored and Co-sponsored Events. Arts Program Administrator Gilliamannounced upcoming events. Wednesdays@Noon concerts, Mar. 7, 14, 21, and 28. Encinitas Library. Music By The Sea concert: Los AngelesEnsemble, Mar. 16, 7:30pm. Special Presentations and Proclamations –Item 4 was heard out of order. 4A. Certificate of Recognition to Outgoing CommissionersThum and Kuta. Arts Program Administrator Gilliamthanked Chair Thum for serving for 12 consecutiveyears on the Commission and presented her with a certificateof appreciation.Gilliam will present Commissioner Kuta with her certificate of appreciation at the Commissioner Recognition event on March 5, 2018, following the Commission meeting.
