(COMMISSIONERS KUTA, SABECK,AND STEFANKO WEREABSENT.) 8. Action Items None 9. Informational Items 9A. Arts Master Plan Discussion Commissioner Schmitt reviewed his executive summary of the Portland Plan Background Report: Arts and Culture, Fall 2009. In Commissioner Sabeck’s absence, Arts Program Administrator Gilliam reviewed her executive summary: Public Art Program Chicago: Relevance for Encinitas. Commissioner Kuta reviewed her executive summaries:Cultural Master Plan: Cultivating Community,City of St. Albert, Alberta;Cultural Plan for the Creative Sector, June 2019 - Providence, RI. Kuta emphasized the importance of implementation. 9B. Public Art Discussion Arts Program Administrator Gilliamannounced four proposed public art projects will go to City Council fortheir consideration on January 10, 2018. Arts Program Administrator Gilliam indicated the glass mosaic for the Marine Safety Center was reviewed by the Art Commission as a donation from the Surfing Madonna Ocean Project (SMOP). Gilliam announced that SMOP prefers to loan the artworkto the City of Encinitas. SMOP will be responsible for insuring and maintaining the artwork. The General Contractor for the Marine Safety Center has not yet signed off on the building; once he does, the mosaic will be installed. 9C. Cultural Arts Division Report Arts Program Administrator Gilliamreported thecity received 170 applications, the highest number to date,to exhibit art in 2018 at the city’s three art galleries. Staffhas made the exhibit schedule and notified theselected artists,and will send a report to the review panel which evaluated the applications. Gilliam announced the Friends of the Arts ‘Passport to Brazil’ event will be April 28, 2018. Gilliam thanked Commissioners Filsinger and Stefanko for representing the Commission for the Arts in the Encinitas Holiday Parade. 9D. Commission-sponsored and Co-sponsored Events Arts Program Administrator Gilliamannounced Commission-sponsored and Co-sponsored Events: Encinitas Friends of the Arts Members Reception, December 7, 4:30-6:30pm. Wednesdays@Noon concerts: December 6, 13, 20 and 27, Encinitas Library. Rebecca Bauer Opening Reception, December16, 1-4pm, Encinitas Community and Senior Center Gallery. 10.
