He indicated that for some time, the committee has been discussing the idea of developing a trolley service for Encinitas. It is anticipated that the trolley service would start out as a daytime service, seven days a week during the summertime, and on weekends the rest of the year. There are many specifics to be discussed and dealt with such as NCTD issues, trolley stop locations, funding, storage. The goal is to have the service self - sufficient. Mr. Norby reviewed the proposed trolley route (see attached "Proposed Trolley Route" which is hereby made a part of these minutes). Don Swanson, promoter, discussed his ideas for promoting the trolley service with Jozsef Illes, the owner of the trolley. He thinks the trolley service is a unique idea for Encinitas and would be very marketable. Mr. Mance asked if there were any ideas to support the trolley service independently from the City? Mr. Swanson noted that the service would use funds from advertisement fees. Also, the service itself would be fee based. Ms. Cameron added that the Tourism and Marketing Committee is also looking at having an extended service to El Camino Real; however, she agrees that it should start with the tourists in the summertime.
