1999-11-04CITY OF ENCINITAS ACTION MINUTES OF REGULAR COMMITTEE MEETING TOURISM AND MARKETING COMMITTEE November 4, 1999 Present: Co- Chairperson Sheila Cameron Co- Chairman Dennis Holz; Kirk Van Allen, Paul Davis, John Mclsaac, Carolyn Cope, Cyd Shaw, Jerry Brooks, Dan Hare, Paula Kirpalani, Julian Duvall, Therese Vaillancourt; Kirsten Richter, Ida Lou Coley; Bob Rauch; Fred Caldwell DIRECTION /ACTION # 1 Meeting called to order at 8:15 A.M. by Council Member Sheila Cameron. Thank you Welcome and Introductions for coming. Everyone introduced themselves. General Announcements Council Member Cameron announced that she was meeting with NCTD this afternoon regarding parking in the downtown Encinitas area. The City is looking at several options. Carolyn Cope, Encinitas Historical Society and Encinitas Arts Commission, announced that they now have available an Historic North County Map. The map shows all the historic points throughout the North County area. Ms. Cope also announced that the Arts Commission will be hosting a regional workshop on Friday, November 5, 1999. The workshop is a public meeting. Artists from Laguna Beach to Chula Vista will be participating in the workshop. They will develop a master plan in which to present to the City Council for approval. Dan Hare, Independent Film Society, announced their next feature film, "The Farm: Life Inside of Angola Prison." will be shown on December 1, 1999. A Public Forum Panel with several guest speakers will be held following the film. Mr. Hare also thanked Days Inn and Ocean Inn for their assistance. ITEM # 2 Council Member Cameron introduced the guest speaker, Ulrich Giske from MG Presentation and Discussion of "Creative Computer Solutions. Pathways into the Future." Mr. Giske works for MG Solutions in Marketing and Project Management. He arrived from Germany 11 months ago to work with his brother with MG Solutions. MG Solutions works with the development of large data base systems. Mr. Giske introduced their new product "E Plan -It." The product can take any company's logo /design and develop it into a ScreenSaver, which can be accessed by the public through the Internet. The ScreenSaver also works as a Calendar and Appointments tool. Through a central server, the ScreenSaver can be updated with the company's current events and also serves as an appointment reminder. The ScreenSaver can be designed to the individual company's needs. The ScreenSaver features E -Mail capabilities which will allow the company to have direct access to a large list of clients for direct promotional activities. With the program's printing capabilities, the company can promote more interest with the public by allowing them to print coupons, handouts, flyers, or additional information provided by the company through the ScreenSaver. With his demonstration of the ScreenSaver program, Mr. Giske showed the members how easily the ScreenSaver can be updated and edited daily /weekly /monthly /annually — however often the company feels it is necessary. Continued general discussions and questions regarding the program and the company. The group discussed the possibility of various organizations and the North County Ocean Cities working cooperatively together to promote their cities and events. # 3 None discussed.
