9A. Discussion: 2017/18 Commission for the Arts Work Plan
Arts Program Administrator Gilliamreviewed the 2017/18 Commission for the
Arts Work Plan.
9B. Cultural Arts Division Report.
Arts Program Administrator Gilliamreviewed the Commission approved location
for the Humanity sculpture at the J Street Overlook.Gilliamindicated that public
input will be soughtregarding the sculptureover the summer.Gilliam notedthat
several art projects were part of the proposed city budget, to include:anLED art
lighting system for the gallery at the Community Center;partial funding for the
purchase of a concert grand piano for concerts in the Community Center banquet
room;a ceramic program at the Community Center; and a public art sculpture
installation program.

Arts Administrator Gilliamannounced upcoming events:
Wednesdays@Noon concerts: June 7, 14, 21, and 28, Encinitas Library
Music By The Sea concert: June 16, 7:30pm, Encinitas Library

11.Future Agenda Items Added by Commission Members
Commissioner Sabeck requested an information item listing all City sponsored
art openings for the year.
12.Commissioners’ Reports
CommissionerStefanko reported she will present to City Council June7 as the
Chair of the Evaluation Panel for the City of Encinitas/Mizel Foundation
Community Grant Program.
Commissioner Sabeck indicated she and Jeffrey will install a public art piece in
the City of San Luis Obispo; she was awarded the commission seven years ago.
CommissionerSchmitt reported on the Summer Fun on the 101 event June 24.
CommissionerKuta reported she attended a conference in St. Louis of the
American Alliance of Museums with the theme: equity, inclusion, accessibility
and diversity. Kuta announced the Wonder of It All, a pop-up show in Mission
valley and Mass Creativity Day, a free family art festival day at the Children’s
MuseumJune 24.
CommissionerAbraham reported she attended a City of Carlsbad meeting for
updating the Master Arts Plan. She indicated a consultant is working with their
commission to formulate a plan. Culinary and performance arts are being
considered in addition to visual and musical arts.
Chair Thum noted she attended a dinner for iPalpitiandpromotedthe
performance series.
