9A. Discussion: 2017/18 Commission for the Arts Work Plan.
9B. Cultural Arts Division Report.
Arts Administrator Gilliam submitted an application to the CaliforniaArts Council,
to develop the Encinitas Arts and Culture District downtown, from A Street to
Swami’s Park, from the coast to Vulcan Ave, including theEncinitas Library.
Encinitas was not accepted in the first roundpilot program. Gilliam notedthe City
will apply in 2019when the full program is implemented.Arts Administrator
GilliamnotedCardiff is actively working to developan arts district.The arts
Program Assistant position (Cheryl Ehlers)will beincreased to a .75 full-time
employeeon May 20, 2017. Gilliam indicated proposedbudget submissions
include: a public art sculpture installation program; a ceramicprogram at the
Community Center withwheels and equipment;partial funding for the purchase of
a9’ concert grand piano for a new series of concerts in the Community Center
banquet room, and an LED art lighting system for the gallery at the Community
Center.

Commissioner Stefanko reported on artistJim Stone’s need for a new glass
studio location due to a fire,and asked Commissioners torecommendsuitable
locations in Encinitas.
Commissioner Schmitt reported on two events he helped organize: aJoshua
White and Peter Spragueconcertat the Encinitas Library onMay 6,andthe
Battle of the Bands in LeucadiaonMay 7.
Commissioner Filsingerreported on two events in Los Angeles: a documentary
film premier‘Free to Rock’and a television show production meeting.
