MINUTES OF THE ENCINITAS SENIOR CITIZEN COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING
FEBRUARY 21, 2017, 2:00 P.M., 505 SOUTH VULCAN AVENUE
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Vance called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Present: Commissioners Quinn, Stewart, Vance, Melikian and Lennox
Absent: Commissioners Lerchbacker and Simon
Also Present: Senior Center Manager Goodsell, Management Analyst Roff, Recreation
Superintendent Gorham, Director Campbell and Program Assistant Gilliam
There being a quorum present, the meeting was in order.

4A. Commissioner Recognition, Director Jennifer Campbell
Director Campbell presented Certificates of Appreciation to Commissioners Simon,
Lerchbacker, Lennox and Melikian for the fulfillment of their terms.
4B. Aid and Attendance Benefit, Senior Care Coordinator Kandis Munro
Provided presentation regarding Veterans Long-Term Care benefits and how to offset the cost
of assisted living care.
5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS / POSSIBLE DIRECTION TO STAFF
Public speaker Bob Gatinella presented information to the Commission regarding the Senior
Expo to be held at the Encinitas Community and Senior Center on Saturday, February 25,
2017.

8A. Senior Citizen Commission Annual Work Plan Goals and Outcomes
Chair Vance presented the agenda report.
Goal 2: The Senior Expo Embracing Aging is on February 25, 2017.
Goal 7: Commissioner Quinn inquired about the nomination forms. Senior Center Manager
Goodsell stated 2 forms have been received and nominations will be accepted through 3/1/17.
Goal 8: Commissions Lennox inquired about how to obtain more drivers for the Out and About
program. Commissioner Vance recommended staff present next month regarding the Out and
About program. Senior Center Manager Goodsell reported staff will provide a presentation on
marketing the Out and About program.

Commissioner Stewart announced that Diane Lanager and Ed Deane of the Coastal Mobility
and Livability Study (CMLS) Working Group presented on the progress of the group. They
discussed the railroad crossings, El Portal underpass and citizen concerns regarding the
wayside horns.
