MINUTES OF THE ENCINITAS SENIOR CITIZEN COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING
JANUARY 17, 2017, 2:00 P.M., 505 SOUTH VULCAN AVENUE
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Vance called the meeting to order at 2:02 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Present: Commissioners Lerchbacker, Stewart, Vance, Melikian and Lennox
Absent: Commissioners Quinn and Simon
Also Present: Senior Center Manager Goodsell, Management Analyst Roff, Recreation
Superintendent Gorham and Program Assistant Gilliam
There being a quorum present, the meeting was in order.

4. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS AND PROCLAMATIONS
4A. The Foundation for Senior Wellbeing Information Resource Center
Program Coordinator Rebecca Steiner provided a presentation regarding their North County
non-profit which provides information for all senior services. The organization was started six
months ago, has one paid staff person, the rest are volunteers. Hours of operation are M-F
9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
5. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS / POSSIBLE DIRECTION TO STAFF
Public speaker Marge Kohl informed the Commission that she is the Parks and Recreation
Commission liaison to the Senior Citizen Commission.

8. ACTION ITEMS
8A. Senior Citizen Commission Annual Work Plan Goals and Outcomes
Chair Vance presented the agenda report.
Goal 3: Request for guest speakers to address the Aid in Dying Act and ElderHelp.
Goal 5: Commissioner Melikian reported a new home provider is available for the ElderHelp
HomeShare Program.
Goal 7: Senior Center Manager Goodsell reported that the Press Release and Nomination
Forms for the Senior Service Awards will be available in January.
9. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
9A. Senior Center Operations Report
Senior Center Manager Goodsell provided information regarding senior program participants,
Out and About volunteer update, senior lunch program, New Year’s Eve Dance and the ribbon
cutting ceremony for the three donated Pro-Am Billiard tables.

11. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS ADDED BY COMMISSION MEMEBERS
Commissioners Lennox and Stewart recommended a presentation from Wright On
Communications. Following Commission discussion the Ad-Hoc Subcommittee agreed to
meet prior to meeting with Wright On Communications.
12. COMMISSION REPORTS
12A. Roundtable
Commissioner Stewart announced the Coastal Mobility and Livability Study (CMLS) Working
Group will present to Council next week.
Commissioner Lerchbacker reported on the CMLS Working Group and that Tricare ends at age
65.
Commissioners Melikian and Vance reported that the Senior Commission deadline for new
applications is January 26, 2017.
