2016-030 Welcoming Community RESOLUTION 2016-30 Encinitas City Council Resolution in Support of Becoming a Welcoming Community for Immigrants and Refugees WHEREAS,the City of Encinitas is a vibrant and thriving community with racial,religious,and ethnic diversity; WHEREAS, Encinitas has a rich agricultural heritage that was made possible by immigrants from around the world, many of whose descendants are active citizens of our City; WHEREAS, more refugees have resettled and found a home in San Diego than the rest of the State of California; WHEREAS,the City of Encinitas is committed to recognizing the dignity of all its residents and the diverse contributions of both immigrants and native-born; WHEREAS,the City of Encinitas encourages the active participation of all its residents in the life of our community, including education and civic participation,and WHEREAS, as the residents of Encinitas,we recognize that all people are deserving of assurance of the basic principles of equity and human rights guaranteed to all people by the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights, BE IT RESOLVED,that the Mayor and City Council of the City of Encinitas declare Encinitas to be a Welcoming Community for immigrants and refugees and urges the County of San Diego to establish a Welcoming Community program across the County. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Encinitas City Council directs city departments and urges local businesses and charitable organizations to work with refugee and immigrant organizations to help provide services to families relocating to the City of Encinitas and encourage their integration into our community.
