MINUTES OF THE ENCINITAS SENIOR CITIZEN COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING,
JUNE 17, 2014

1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Vance called the meeting to order at 10:03 a.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Present: Chair Vance, Vice Chair Henry, Commissioners King, Melikian,
Absent: Commissioners Bolus and Simon
Also Present: Recreation Superintendent Gorham, Senior Center Manager Goodsell and
Management Analyst Roff
There being a quorum present, the meeting was in order.

COMMISSIONER KING MOTIONED TO APPROVE THE AGENDA, COMMISSIONER
MELIKIAN SECONDED AND THE MOTION CARRIED 4-0 (COMMISSIONERS BOLUS
AND SIMON ABSENT).
6. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
Approval of the May 20, 2014 Regular Meeting Minutes
ACTION
COMMISSIONER KING MOTIONED TO APPROVE THE MAY 15, 2014 REGULAR
MEETING MINUTES, COMMISSIONER HENRY SECONDED THE MOTION AND THE
MOTION CARRIED 4-0 (COMMISSIONERS BOLUS AND SIMON ABSENT).

8A. General Plan Advisory Committee Representative – Commissioner Vance

8B. Senior Citizen Commission FY 2014/15 Work Plan Goals and Outcomes – All
Commissioners
Commissioner Henry provided a verbal update on the Senior Citizen of the Year Award and the
Ad-Hoc Committee will present an agenda report at the September 2014 Senior Citizen
Commission meeting.
8C. Roundtable – All Commissioners
Commissioner King reported the Transportation and Housing Ad-Hoc Subcommittee met.
Commissioner Henry requested staff provide an update on the Parks and Recreation
Department meeting with the Community Resource Center Director.

Recreation Superintendent provided a verbal summary of the meeting with the Community
Resource Center.
Commissioner Melikian reported the Community Resource Center works with Inter Faith
Churches to provide transitional housing.
Commissioner Vance reported on a 60 Minutes segment on the homeless and the chronic
unemployed in Nashville.
Commissioner Melikian requested a guest speaker from an Inter Faith Church.
9. TOUR
Commissioners departed at 10:25 am for the Escondido Senior Center at 210 Park Avenue for
a tour and lunch.

Chair Vance adjourned the meeting at 12:15 pm.
