MINUTES OF THE ENCINITAS SENIOR CITIZEN COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING SEPTEMBER 16, 2014 AT 2PM
505 SOUTH VULCAN AVENUE ENCINITAS, CA 92024
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Vance called the meeting to order at 2:00 PM.
2. ROLL CALL
Present: Chair Vance, Vice Chair Henry, Commissioners King, Melikian and Bolus
Absent: Commissioner Simon
Also Present: Recreation Superintendent Gorham, Senior Center Manager Goodsell and
Senior Management Analyst Stauffer
There being a quorum present, the meeting was in order.

4A. 211 – Community Development Coordinator Alana Kalinowski
Alana Kalinowski presented information on 211 San Diego a resource and information center
that provides people with community, health and disaster services.

7. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
7A. Approval of the June 17, 2014 Special Meeting Minutes
ACTION
COMMISSIONER MELIKIAN MOTIONED AND COMMISSIONER BOLUS SECONDED TO
APPROVE THE JUNE 17, 2014 SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES. MOTION CARRIED 5-0.
8. ACTION ITEMS
8A. FY 2014-15 Senior Citizen Commission Work Plan Goal 9, Special Projects
Recommended Action: Review and approve Senior Citizen of the Year Award and Service to
Seniors Award.
ACTION
CHAIR VANCE MOTIONED AND COMMISSIONER HENRY SECONDED TO APPROVE
THE SENIOR CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARD AND THE SERVICE TO SENIORS AWARD.
MOTION CARRIED 5-0.
8B. FY 2014-15 Senior Citizen Commission Work Plan Goal 3, Community Outreach
Recommended Action: Discuss and review observations made during the Escondido Park
Avenue Community Center site visit, and the request initiated by Council for a follow-up report
on what was learned.
ACTION
COMMISSIONERS WILL PROVIDE THEIR INPUT TO STAFF AND STAFF WILL FINALIZE
A REPORT THAT WILL BE SHARED WITH COUNCIL.
8C. Policy and Protocols for City Council Meetings that Apply to Commissions
Recommended Action: The Commission receives, reviews and becomes knowledgeable with
the Policy and Protocols.

Future agenda items may be requested with the consensus of two or more Commissioners
Chair Vance shared a book entitled, “Edo Craftsmen” and suggested a calendar or book
project on senior craftsmen in the community. Commissioner King supported the concept for
discussion at the next regular commission meeting.

Commissioner Vance attended the Ad-Hoc Committee meeting.

The Commission appreciation dinner will be held October 1 at the Encinitas Library. The
GreenPlay fee study workshops will be held on October 6 & 7 at the Community Center.
Moonlight Beach Fest is October 25. The Holiday Parade is December 6.
