Monday, October 3, 2011
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Meeting was called to order by Vice-Chair Thum at 5:05 p.m.
PRESENT: Vice-Chair Thum, Commissioners DiBenedetto, Lemen, Lueker
and Schmid
ABSENT: Chair Heisler and Commissioner Crawford
ALSO PRESENT: Arts Administrator Gilliam, Commission Secretary Zenns
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Vice-Chair Thum led the Pledge of Allegiance.
3. ORAL COMMUNICATION
None.
4. APPROVAL OF SEPTEMBER 12, 2011 MEETING MINUTES
ACTION:
COMMISSIONERS LUEKER MOVED AND LEMEN SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES
OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 12, 2011. MOTION CARRIED: AYES:
DIBENEDETTO, LEMEN, LUEKER, SCHMID AND THUM: NAYS: NONE; ABSENT:
CRAWFORD AND HEISLER: ABSTAIN: NONE.
5. NEW BUSINESS
A. FY2011/12 COMMISSION FOR THE ARTS WORK PLAN
The commissioners briefly discussed the FY2010/11 Work Plan and reviewed the draft
outline for FY2011/12. Discussion ensued and a draft work plan was developed.
The work plan will be considered for approval at the November meeting and then
presented to Council at an upcoming meeting.
B. Commission Sponsored/Co-sponsored Events at Encinitas Library, Oct., 2011
Arts Administrator Gilliam highlighted several of the upcoming Commission sponsored and co-
sponsored events at the Encinitas Library including the following:
1)Artist's Talk: Wendy Gauntlett-Shaw. Wednesday, October 12, 10:00am-noon.
2) Concert: Lori Bell Trio. Sunday, October 16, 2:00pm.
3) Opening Reception: North County Photographic Society. Sunday, October 23, 1:00-4:00pm.

Arts Administrator Gilliam highlighted several of the upcoming arts events taking place in
October.
6. AGENDA ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING
a. Review Draft FY2011/12 Work Plan, Appoint Commissioners to vacant committees
and Approve plan.
b. Form Ad Hoc for General Plan Update, review arts content and General Plans from
other cities.
7. REPORTS FROM COMMISSION AND STAFF
Arts Administrator Gilliam reported on the Commission for the Arts information booth at
the City's 25`" Anniversary Celebration, noting that 200 Arts Brochures were given out to
the public and more than 150 public comment cards were received regarding the
proposed long term loan of the Save the Ocean mosaic.
Commissioner Lueker attended an arts fair in Fallbrook.
Commissioner Lemen presented a lecture.
Commissioner Thum discussed the upcoming October 9 Coastal Communities Concert
Band performance.
8. ADJOURNMENT
Vice-Chair Thum adjourned the meeting at 6:59 p.m.
