1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Meeting was called to order by Chair Buxbaum at 5:06 p.m.
PRESENT: Chair Buxbaum, Commissioners Cope, Crawford, DiBenedetto,
Lemen (arrived at 5:08 p.m.), Thum and Zimdars
ABSENT: None
ALSO PRESENT: Arts Administrator Gilliam, Commission Secretary Zenns
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Commissioner Cope led the Pledge of Allegiance.
3. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
None.
4. APPROVAL OF NOVEMBER 1, 2010 MEETING MINUTES
ACTION:
COMMISSIONERS THUM MOVED AND COPE SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF
THE REGULAR MEETING OF NOVEMBER 1, 2010. MOTION CARRIED: AYES: BUXBAUM,
COPE, CRAWFORD, DiBENEDETTO, THUM, AND ZIMDARS: NAYS: NONE: ABSENT:
LEMEN: ABSTAIN: NONE.
Commissioner Lemen arrived at 5:08 p.m.
5. OLD BUSINESS
A. Ad Hoc Committee Report: Arts & Food Farmers Market
The Ad-hoc Committee met with representatives of the Planning Department and was
informed that there would not be a permit fee requirement for the Arts & Food Farmers
Market. Also, Ms. Michelove met with Chris Calkins of Carltas and is awaiting final approval
from the property owner of the Town Center to move forward with plans.
B. Ad Hoc Committee Report: 2011 Visual Art Exhibits
Commissioner Lemen reported that the Visual Art Ad-hoc Committee met last week and selected
the exhibitors for the 2011 Visual Art Exhibits.

6. NEW BUSINESS
A. Report on the Levitt Pavilions Site Visit
Commissioner Zimdars reported that she recently had spent a day with the Levitt Pavilions group
regarding the possibility of developing an amphitheater within the City. Several potential sites
were visited including the San Diego Botanic Gardens, the Town Center, the Quail Gardens Road
common area, and several other locations in the County.
The Levitt Pavilions' ideal model is to the place the amphitheater on City-owned land and to have
the venue managed by a non-profit organization. They would require a five year commitment and
the events would have to be offered at no cost to the attendees.
B. Commission Members' Attendance at Arts Events
Arts Administrator Gilliam encouraged the Commissioners to attend local art events and to
acknowledge their attendance with the event promoter.
C. Encinitas Arts & Events Calendar for December, 2010
Arts Administrator Gilliam reported on the upcoming arts and events for the month of December.
7. AGENDA ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING
1. Ad-hoc Committee Reports: Public Art— John Dole Exhibit
2. Schedule Sculpture Exhibit Tour
8. OPEN DISCUSSION
Commissioner Lemen reported that he was developing a tutorial video which incorporates various
community sites.
Commissioner Thum reported that the Coastal Communities Concert Band's Holiday Concert held
at the Escondido Performing Arts Center was sold out.
Commissioner Crawford reminded the Commissioners of the Encinitas Elementary School District
Board meeting tomorrow night wherein the Downtown Encinitas Mainstreet Association would be
proposing an Art Center at the Pacific View Site.
9. ADJOURNMENT
Chair Buxbaum adjourned the meeting at 5:59 pm.
