1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Meeting was called to order by Chair Buxbaum at 5:06 p.m.
PRESENT: Chair Buxbaum, Commissioners Cope, Crawford (arrived at 5:15
p.m.), DiBenedetto, Lemen, Thum and Zimdars
ABSENT: None
ALSO PRESENT: Arts Administrator Gilliam, Commission Secretary Zenns

Commissioner Cope led the Pledge of Allegiance.

4. APPROVAL OF OCTOBER 4. 2010 MEETING MINUTES
ACTION:
COMMISSIONERS ZIMDARS MOVED AND COPE SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES
OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF OCTOBER 4, 2010. MOTION CARRIED: AYES:
BUXBAUM, COPE, DiBENEDETTO, LEMEN, THUM, AND ZIMDARS: NAYS: NONE; ABSENT:
CRAWFORD: ABSTAIN: NONE.
Commissioner Crawford arrived at 5:15 p.m.
5. OLD BUSINESS
A. Proposal for the Arts and Food Farmers Market
Mim Michelove provided the Commission with an update on her proposal for an Art and Food
Farmers Market. Discussion ensured.
ACTION:
COMMISSIONERS COPE MOVED AND LEMEN SECONDED TO SUPPORT THE PROPOSAL
FOR THE ARTS AND FOOD FARMERS MARKET. MOTION CARRIED: AYES: BUXBAUM,

Commissioners Cope and DiBenedetto agreed to serve on the Arts and Food Farmers Market Ad
Hoc Committee.
B. Review and Approve 2010/11 Work Plan and Ad Hoc Committee Assignments
The Commissioners reviewed the proposed 2010/11 Work Plan and Ad Hoc Committee
assignments.

WORK PLAN AND AD HOC COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS. MOTION CARRIED: AYES:

NONE; ABSENT: NONE; ABSTAIN: NONE.
C. Review Approved Budget Priorities for FY 2011/12 and FY 2012113
Arts Administrator Gilliam provided a brief overview of the Council's Goal Setting process as it
pertains to the Operating Budget. The Commissioners reviewed the approved Commission for the
Arts budget priorities for FY2011/12 and FY2012/13.

A. 2011 Meeting Schedule

MEETING SCHEDULE. MOTION CARRIED: AYES: BUXBAUM, COPE, CRAWFORD,

B. 2011 Encinitas Arts Provider Meeting
Arts Administrator Gilliam presented the concept of developing an Encinitas Arts Provider meeting
in an effort to gather together all of the various "arts providers" within the community to meet on a
regular basis for the purpose of information sharing and coordinating arts efforts. Discussion
ensued.

COMMISSIONERS THUM MOVED AND CRAWFORD SECONDED TO LAUNCH A SERIES OF
ENCINITAS ARTS PROVIDER MEETINGS BEGINNING IN JANUARY 2011. MOTION
CARRIED: AYES: BUXBAUM, COPE, CRAWFORD, DiBENEDETTO, LEMEN, THUM, AND
ZIMDARS: NAYS: NONE; ABSENT: NONE; ABSTAIN: NONE.
C. Encinitas Arts & Events Calendar for November, 2010
Arts Administrator Gilliam reported on the upcoming events for the month of November, 2010.

8. OPEN DISCUSSION
Commissioner Thum reported on the First Sunday Series featuring the Sterling Flutes and the
upcoming Coastal Communities Concert Band's Annual Holiday Concert benefitting Meals on
Wheels.
Commissioner Cope reported that the Boat Houses and Beyond Architectural Tour earned $3,000.
She also indicated that the Street Fair is November 21, 2010.
Arts Administrator Gilliam reported on a new children's theater company, the Prodigy Players. He
also indicated that the Classic Youth Theater has opened a boutique in Solana Beach offering
classes, arts & crafts. Lastly, on Monday, Intrepid Shakespeare is doing a reading of the play
"Betrayal."
