1. CALL TO ORDERIROLL CALL
Meeting was called to order by Chair Buxbaum at 5:05 p.m.
PRESENT: Chair Buxbaum, Commissioners Cope, DiBenedetto, Lemen,
Tucker, Thum and Zimdars
ABSENT: None
ALSO PRESENT: Arts Administrator Gilliam, Commission Secretary Zenns
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Commissioner Thum led the Pledge of Allegiance.
3. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
John Dole spoke in reference to public art. He is an artist residing within the City. He has a
sculpture on exhibit as part of the Urban Trees Exhibit in downtown San Diego. The exhibit
coming to its conclusion and would now like to donate the tree sculpture to the City of Encinitas.
Mr. Dole would like to potentially see the tree placed at City Hall or the Library.
Commission consensus to bring this issue back as an agenda item for further discussion and
possible recommendations to the City Council.

4. APPROVAL OF JULY 12. 2010 MEETING MINUTES
ACTION:
COMMISSIONERS THUM MOVED AND LEMEN SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF
THE REGULAR MEETING OF JULY 12, 2010. MOTION CARRIED: AYES: BUXBAUM, COPE,
DiBENEDETTO, LEMEN, THUM AND ZIMDARS; NAYS: NONE; ABSENT: TUCKER;
ABSTAIN: NONE.
5. A. Develop 2010111 Commission for the Arts Work Plan
Chair Buxbaum indicated that the FY10/11 work should reflect the current budget allocations. The
next budget cycle for FY11/12-12/13 begins this Fall/Winter.
Arts Administrator Gilliam presented the draft FY10/11 Work Plan Outline which would be utilized
by the Commission to develop a final work plan for this current year.

Commission discussion ensued and a FY2010/11 Work Plan was developed and adopted
(attached and incorporated by reference).
6. Encinitas Arts 8t Events Calendar for September, 2010
Arts Administrator Gilliam reported on the Arts and Events calendar for September, 2010.
7. AGENDA ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING
1. Donation of Public Art: Tree Sculpture, by John Dole
2. Proposal for Theatre Pad at Town Center: Mim Michelove
3 Unfunded work project proposals for consideration by Commission
8. OPEN DISCUSSION
Commissioner Zimdars spoke about the lighting at parks and their impact on dark skies.
Commissioner Cope reported on the Woodie Festival this weekend.
Arts Administrator Gilliam indicated that he would coordinate a tour of the temporary art exhibit at
the San Diego Botanic Garden for the Commissioners.
9. ADJOURNMENT
Chair Buxbaum adjourned the meeting at 7:00 P.M.
