CONSTRUCTION PROCEDURES
1. SOLDIER BEAM CONSTRUCTION:
1.1 LAY -OUT AND DRILL THE HOLE DIAMETER AND DEPTH AS
INDICATED IN THE DRAWINGS.
1.2 PLACE THE SOLDIER BEAM APPROXIMATELY IN THE CENTER OF
THE HOLE.
1.3 PLACE STRUCTURAL CONCRETE PER NOTES FROM THE BOTTOM
OF THE HOLE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PROPOSED EXCAVATION.
1.4 PLACE LEAN CONCRETE (I SACK MIX) FROM THE BOTTOM OF
THE PROPOSED EXCAVATION TO EXISTING GRADE.
2. LAGGING PLACEMENT:
2.1 INSTALL LAGGING AND BACKFILL IN 5' MAXIMUM INCREMENTS.
2.2 PRIOR TO EXCAVATING THE NEXT INCREMENT OF CUT, THE
LAGGING MUST BE COMPLETELY INSTALLED INSURING BEARING
BETWEEN THE CUT SOIL 4 WOOD LAGGING, BY COMPACTING
SAND BEHIND THE LAGGING.
2.3 GAPS BETWEEN LAGGING NOT TO EXCEED 1 1/2" MAXIMUM, PACK
GAPS WITH HAY OR STRAW.
1 EXCAVATION MONITORING:
3.1 THE TOPS OF THE SOLDIER BEAMS SHOULD BE SURVEYED
PRIOR TO EXCAVATION AND THAT THE TOPS OF THE SOLDIER
BEAMS SHOULD BE SURVEYED ON A WEEKLY BASIS UNTIL THE
FOUNDATION IS COMPLETE. THE SURVEYED SOLDIER BEAM
DATA POINTS SHOULD BE LOCATED AT APPROXIMATELY 50
FEET ON- CENTER. INFORM SHORING ENGINEER IF ANY TIP
DISPLACEMENT EXCEEDS 1/2"
