These planting notes should be considered only as supplemental to any governing rules, regulations or standards as determined by the local agency. It is the Contractor's responsibility to refer to any such document prior to commencing work. 2. A. The planting plans are diagrammatic. All planting locations are approximate. Plant symbols take precedence over plant quanities specified. B. Quanities shown on the planting plan are approximate and are for the convienience of the Contractor only. C. Contractor shall notify the Landscape Architect of discrepencies between the quanitites and symbols shown. 3. Landscape Contractor shall submit a soils report from a City authorized testing agency to the Landscape Architect before beginning work. All soil amendments listed below are subject to change per the soils analysis. A. All areas to be planted, which have a slope of less than 3:1, shall be cross - ripped to a depth of six (6 ") and the following amendments spread evenly and thoroughly blended in per 1,000 square feet ( Quanities subject to change per soils report). 1. 6 cubic yards of nitrogen fortified redwood shavings 2. 100 pounds of agricultural gypsum 3. 15 pounds iron sulphate 4. 25 pounds 16 -6 -8 slow release fertilizer B. Each plant shall receive "Agriform" (or equal) plant tablets as follows: 1 gal. container - (1) - 21 gram 5 gal. container - (3) - 21 gram 15 gal. container - (5) - 21 gram per 3" boxed tree size - (1) - 21 gram C. Plant backfill shall be 50% site soil, and 50% nitrogen fortified wood shavings by volume. D. Landscape Contractor shall maintain proof of delivery and application of all planting /soil amendments on site and make available for inspection before acceptance of the entire installation. 4. The Landscape Contractor shall apply a contact herbicide, where weeds are present, per manufacturer's specifications a minimum of 10 days prior to commencement of any planting or irrigation work. Weeds shall be allowed to completely die back, including the roots before proceeding work. 5. Landscape Contractor shall maintain a minimum 2% drainage away from all buildings, structures and walls. Finished grades shall be smoothed to eliminate puddling or standing water. 6. The Landscape Contractor shall rake out and remove all rock 1/2" diameter and larger from the top two inches of finished grade, except on slopes steeper than 3:1. 7. Prior to planting, irrigation system shall be fully operational and all planting areas shall be thoroughly soaked. 8. Plant material shall not be root bound. Five gallon containers and larger shall have been grown in containers for a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 2 years. Plants shall exhibit healthy growth and be free of diseases and pests. All plant material shall be subject to inspection and possible rejection prior to installation. 9. Prior to pre -plant spotting of trees, Contractor shall verify that no conflict of future root and walls, fences or utilities will result from such tree placement. Adjust if necessary and gain approval from Landscape Architect. 10. All trees, shrubs, vines and ground cover shall be planted in accordance with City Standard Details and Specifications. All trees located within 5' of paving shall be installed with a "Deep Root" root barrier per manufacturer's specifications. 11. Street Tree and other tree locations shall be spaced: 3 feet from transformers, cable, and double check detectors. 5 feet from mailboxes. 5 feet from fire hydrants (all sides). 7 feet from centerline of all utility lines (without easement) (sewer, water and storm drains). 10 feet from easement boundaries (sewer, water, storm drains, access, or other utilities). 10 feet from driveways (unless a Line of Sight is determined by the Traffic Section to be otherwise). 15 feet from street lights and other utility poles. Lines of sight at arterials, collector, and local streets shall be reviewed and determined by the Traffic Engineer. REVISIONS I APPROVED I DATE I . REFERENCES 12. Container plants shall not be placed within twelve (12 ") of sprinkler heads. 13. Shrubs and trees shown in plant areas shall be under - planted with ground cover shown by adjacent symbol, to within 12" of main plant stem. 14. At completion of all work outlined in these plans, the Landscape Contractor shall contact Owner and arrange for a walk through to determine that all aspects of work are completed. Work must be fully completed according to plans and specifications, completed in a good workmanship manner and must be accepted by the Owner in writing prior to the beginning of the maintenance period. 15. The Landscape Contractor shall maintain all planting for a period of sixty (60) days after completion. All areas shall be kept clean, watered and weed -free. 16. Prior to the end of maintenance period, Landscape Contractor shall contact Owner and arrange for a final walk through. Owner must accept all maintained areas in writing prior to the end of maintenance period. 17. A. All ground covers shall be guaranteed by the Contractor as to growth and health for a period of sixty (60) days after completion of maintenance period and final acceptance. All shrubs shall be guaranteed by the Contractor as to growth and health for a period of nintey (90) days after completion of maintenance period and final acceptance. All trees shall be guaranteed by the Contractor to live and grow in an acceptable upright position for a period of one (1) year after completion of the specified maintenance period and final acceptance. B. The Contractor, within fifteen (15) days of written notification by the Landscape Architect, shall remove and replace all guaranteed plant materials, which for any reason fail to meet the requirements of the guarantee, replacement shall be made with plant materials as indicated or specified on the original plans, and all such replacement materials shall be guaranteed as specified for the original material guarantee. 18.
