CMP04B EC CONSTR CORRESP 8.6.12From: Marc Cheney Finai Ito: marcc@ecconstructors.com] Sent: Monday, August 06, 2012 11:32 AM To: John Frenken Cc: artm(- Oecconstructors.com Subject: Moonlight Beach -Items for Clarification Importance: High John, As we have been going through the plans for Moonlight Beach we have noticed a few items that need further clarification. Rather than submit formal RFIs maybe we can handle these items through "clarification" e- mails. Should you want RFIs, let me know and we will get them submitted in a more formal format. 1) Sheet 52.0/4 &5 show rubitex wrap at wall dowels to the roof slab. Is this the proper /intended application? The detail would only provide a waterstop in a concentrated place every 12- inches not the entire length of the wall. RESPONSE: Rubitex is not in any way waterproofing. It is a bond break for slab movement while the concrete is curing. We'll need the waterproofing membrane per the architectural (see top row of details on sheet A -6.4) and also the waterstop strip where shown.(details 1 &3/S2.0 for example). 2) Detail 10/S2.0 Shows a welded cross bar. Is it necessary that this be a welded connection? Additionally, this should be epoxy coated rebar and the welding process would burn the epoxy off of the bar. RESPONSE: We do need that bar to be welded as shown. 3) Please provide spacing /locations for masonry control joints. The control joints shown on the ext. elevations do not always line up with the perpendicular interior walls. RESPONSE: See attached PDF we superimposed the grid so you could see where they are located. 4) Please provide a connection detail between the exterior sedimentary concrete walls and the intersecting CMU walls. RESPONSE: See 15/S1.3 (this detail is a plan view) 5) Please clarify why the plans call for the eastern CMU wall to be backfilled (completely) prior to completing the remaining walls. It seems that the structure would be stronger as a whole (all wall tied together) then backfill against the building. RESPONSE: We need the retaining wall to be constructed and backfilled prior to constructing the rest of the walls so the wall deflection can occur prior to bracing it with the perpendicular walls. This relieves stress in the entire system and is what was intended in the design. 6) Please reference detail 1/S1.4 at grids F &H. The 7 5/8" concrete wall should be placed at the same time as the sedimentary wall below and keyed in to allow the roof slab to be placed at a later date. Also, there is no need to lap splice the vertical bars in this area. Please confirm. RESPONSE: The walls can be monolithic and keyed for the slab. If the vertical reinforcing is continuous, there is no need to lap splice.
