MINUTES
MEETING DATE: AUGUST 31, 1998 6:00 P.M.
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL

4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
First official meeting of Commission on the Arts; therefore, no minutes from
previous meeting.
5. NEW BUSINESS
A. Training on Brown Act by Roger Krauel, City Attorney
Commission received brief overview of the Brown Act by City Attorney
B. Election of Chair and Vice-Chair
Commission members discussed term options for Chair and Vice-Chair.
Moved and seconded that Chair could be held by any commissioner and
would serve a one-year term, Vice-Chair could be held by any
commissioner and would serve a two-year term. Motion carried.
Nominations opened for Chair. Mario Yco nominated. Vote was
unanimous.
Nominations opened for Vice-Chair. Carolyn Cope and Martha Witz
nominated. Carolyn Cope elected unanimously.
C. Determine Regular Meeting Time and Date

After discussion, motion made and seconded to hold regular monthly
st
meetings on 1 Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m., with the exception of
September, 1998, which will be held on Monday, September 14 due to
Labor Day Holiday.
D. Review Ordinance Establishing Commission for the Arts
Director Wigginton discussed ordinance from City Council establishing
Commission for the Arts.
E. Discuss Commission Organization and Project Priorities
Director Wigginton led discussion on Commission organization and project
priorities. Vice-Chair Cope asked question regarding budget for
Commission. Director Wigginton replied that there is no operating budget
for the Commission.
