ARTS COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: March 12, 2001
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chairperson Hicks called meeting to order at 5:35 p.m.
Present: Commissioners Hicks, Charnow, Cope, De Soto, Nee, Rincon and St.
Pierre
Absent: None
Also Present: Arts Coordinator Hippert
2.PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
3.NEW BUSINESS
Hicks provided a brief introduction of the role of the Commission and discussed her
expectations for the Commission.
Commissioners reviewed the history of the Commission, and discussed the past and
current projects.
De Soto recommended that the Commission agendize a discussion of the Downtown
Streetscape project, and invite artist Terry Weber to present his art to the Commission for
potential inclusion in the project. There was consensus to agendize this issue for the
April 2, 2001 meeting.

5.COMMISSIONERS CORNER
A. Commissioners
St. Pierre reported on the activities at the Student Art Gallery in the 101 Artists’
Colony in the Lumberyard.
Cope reported on attending the Bird Hub event at San Elijo Lagoon, sponsored by the
Lux Art Institute. She also reported that Encinitas flower growers will sponsor a
grower’s tour in June, 2001.

Nee reported that he had spent a good deal of time becoming re-acquainted with
Downtown Encinitas, and found that there are not enough public restrooms, nor
enough directional signs to those that exist.
Rincon reported that she is working on bringing together various dance elements in
Encinitas.
