MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: March 31, 2003
CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chair Rincon called the meeting to order at 5:35pm
Present: Commissioners Rincon, Gould, Ranson, Van Haitsma, Hord, and Nee
Absent: Commissioner Slevinske

1. DISCUSSION ON ISSUES RELATED TO THE ARTS MASTER PLAN
Commissioner Van Haitsma commented that the Arts Master Plan does not include any
historical information on the Native Americans of the area. The Commission will think of
ways to incorporate that history into the document. Chair Rincon will discuss potential
dates for the celebration with City staff.
2. DISCUSSION ON COMMISSION PARTICIPATION IN THE D.E.M.A. STREET
FAIR
Chair Rincon announced that the DEMA Street Fair is April 5 and 6 and that the
Commission will host a booth. Commissioners discussed what to display at the booth.
An informational flyer will be passed out and a brief survey will be available.
Commissioners Gould and Van Haitsma will review the flyer and survey. The schedule
for staffing the booth is as follows:

Van Haitsma 1-4
Commissioners discussed subcommittees. The following subcommittees resulted:
Grant Applications Review

Commissioners will rotate on this subcommittee.
Budget/Finances

Chair Rincon asked that the subcommittees meet prior to the next regular Commission
meeting in May.
3. UPDATE ON THE COMMISSION PART-TIME STAFFING REQUEST
Chair Rincon reported on the meeting with the City Manager and Council Member
Guerin. Christina Chacon was hired for the part-time arts staffing position and will begin
on April 3, 2003. This position will be funded through the remaining balance in the Arts
Trust Fund. A Memo to the City Council on staffing was passed out. Commissioners
discussed completing the distribution of the Arts Master Plan and full-time staffing
needs. Chair Rincon also commented that the Commission will be requesting additional
funding from the City Council for programs and projects this fiscal year.
