MEETING MINUTES: May 4, 2011, 4:30 PM
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chairperson Haller called the meeting to order at 4:33 PM
Present: Chairperson Haller, Vice Chairperson Ferreirae, Commissioners Barth, Conger,
Dempster, Eyl, Lawson, Marow, Morales, Lawson, and Sands
Also Present: Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein and Administrative Support Coordinator
Roff
Absent: Commissioner Maskiewicz
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Commissioner Marow led the pledge.
3. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Jim O’Grady, Interim Director of Parks and Recreation introduced himself to the
Commission.
4. CHANGES TO THE AGENDA
None
5. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
Approval of the Minutes for the April 6, 2011 Regular Meeting.
COMMISSIONER MAROW MOVED COMMISSIONER CONGER SECONDED TO
APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE APRIL 6, 2011 MEETING. MOTION CARRIED 10-0
(COMMISSIONER MASKIEWICZ ABSENT).

7. OLD BUSINESS

8. NEW BUSINESS
Volunteer for the Community Grant Program Evaluation Panel (CGPEP)
Chair Haller presented information on the CGPEP’s responsibilities. Chair Marow
reported on his experience in serving on the CGPEP. Commissioners Barth and Eyl
volunteered. Staff will report back on the number of volunteers needed from the Youth
Commission.
9. AD HOC SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS
A. Subcommittee Reports
Recycling (Commissioners Barth, Conger and Lawson)
Commissioner Lawson presented the changes to the Recycling PowerPoint
presentation. The Commission unanimously agreed to accept the changes. The
subcommittee will prepare a memo to Council for the June meeting.
Homeless Teens (Commissioners Eyl, Dempster, Morales, Sands and Lawson)
Commissioner Eyl reported the subcommittee will provide an update at the June
meeting.
Environment (Commissioners Conger, Barth and Haller)
Chair Haller presented the Commissioners with a flyer to promote the May and
July beach cleanups.
B. Other Representative Reports
CGPU (Commissioner Marow)
Commissioner Marow provided updates on the April meeting.
10. COMMISSIONER’S CORNER
Commissioner Lawson reported Prom, Star Testing and AP Testing at LCC.
Commissioner Eyl reported the school paper and graduation at St. Johns.
Commissioner Conger reported on Standardized Testing at Diegueno.
Commissioner Morales reported on the Jog-a-thon and Student Council Elections at St.
John’s.
Commissioner Sands reported on AP Testing and Prom at SDA.
Commissioner Barth reported on the Art Show at CCA.
Commissioner Dempster reported the Diegueno Girls Basketball Team won their last
game.
Commissioner Marow reported on the Spring Assembly at SDA.
Vice Chair Ferreirae reported on Exhibition Day at SDA.
Chair Haller reported on the Fashion Show Benefit at SDA. Chair Haller also requested
Commissioner to check their calendar for availability during the end of June to attend a
CPR/First Aide training class hosted by San Diego Medical Services and reminded
Commissioners of the upcoming Intergenerational Recital and the end of year
Commission Celebration after the June meeting.
