YOUTH COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES: January 5, 2011 - 4:30 PM
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chairperson Haller called the meeting to order at 4:33 p.m.
Present: Chairperson Haller, Vice Chairperson Ferreirae, Commissioners
Eyl, Maskiewicz, Morales, Lawson, Dempster, Barth, Sands,
Conger and Marow

Present: Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein and Program Assistant Roff
Absent: None
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Commissioner Marow led the pledge
3. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
None
4. CHANGES TO THE AGENDA
Chair Haller requested the Environmental Subcommittee members be corrected to
Commissioners Conger, Barth and Lawson.
5. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
Approval of Minutes for Meeting of December 1, 2010.
VICE CHAIRPERSON FERREIRAE MOVED COMMISSIONER EYL SECONDED TO
APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE DECEMBER 1, 2010 MEETING. MOTION CARRIED
11-0.
6. PRESENTATIONS
A. Suzanne Colby, Community Resource Center
Ms. Colby provided a presentation on homelessness with a focus on teens. Commissioners
were provided a handout on CRC Teen Backpack Proposal.
7. OLD BUSINESS
A. Discussion on Promoting Teen Activities
Commissioners provided Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein with school contacts for
promoting teen activities. Chair Haller requested all commissioners provide contacts to
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein.
B. Holiday Parade Participation
Commissioners provided positive comments on their participation in this year’s Holiday
Parade.
C. Discussion on North County Youth Summit
Commissioners reached consensus that the Commission will participate in the North County
Youth Summit.

9. AD HOC SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS
A. Subcommittee Reports
Recycling (Commissioners Conger, Barth, Haller)
Commissioner Barth reported the final version of the Power Point presentation will be
presented at the February meeting.
Homeless Teens (Commissioners Dempster, Morales, Eyl, Sands and Lawson)
Commissioner Eyl reported the subcommittee will meet after today’s Commission
meeting and provide a presentation at the February meeting.
Environment (Commissioners Conger, Barth and Lawson)
Commissioner Barth reported the subcommittee will schedule a meeting before the
February Commission meeting.
B. Other Representative Reports
CGPU (Commissioner Marow)
Commissioner Marow provided Commissioner’s with an update on the CGPU
Committees progress.
10. COMMISSIONER’S CORNER
Vice Chair Ferreirae reported on Winter Formal at San Dieguito Academy.
Commissioner Eyl reported on the March 5 Decathlon, Student Council hot chocolate sales
and math reviews at Saint John’s.
Commissioner Morales reported on a trip to the LA Times and a workshop in Anaheim by
the Journalism Club and the successful student play at Saint John’s.
Commissioner Conger reported on the Beanies for Babies project at Diegueno Middle
School.
Commissioner Maskiewicz reported on the Japanese exchange program at San Dieguito
Academy.
Commissioner Barth reported on the winter formal and semester end at Canyon Crest
Academy.
Commissioner Lawson reported the La Costa Canyon winter formal will be held at the
House of Blues.
Commissioner Marow reported on a new committee at San Dieguito Academy, Curriculum
for Patriotism.
Chair Haller reported on the San Dieguito Academy winter band concert.
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein distributed flyers on teen winter programs.
