SENIOR CITIZEN COMMISSION MINUTES

1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 2:01 PM

2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Commissioner Vance led the Pledge of Allegiance.

5. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approval of Minutes for the Regular Meeting September 21, 2010
COMMISSIONER VANCE MOTIONED, COMMISSIONER VANHOUGHTON
SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES. MINUTES WERE UNANIMOUSLY
APPROVED 7-0.
6. PRESENTATIONS
A. Web Based Marketing, Nick Buck, Recreation Supervisor
Recreation Supervisor Buck provided the Commission with a PowerPoint presentation
on the Parks and Recreation Departments web based marketing efforts. Commissioners
provided recommendations to make websites more user-friendly for senior citizens.
7. OLD BUSINESS
A. Status Report on the Senior Center
Senior Center Manager Goodsell provided an update on the new Visual Journey Outdoors
program.
B. Update Report on Ad Hoc Subcommittees and Representative Reports
Outreach (Commissioners Campbell, Harp and Finch)
Vice-Chair Campbell reminded Commissioners the Exploring Senior Issues Report will be
presented to Council on November 10, 2010 at 6 PM.

Special Events (Commissioner Drielsma, Pollack and VanHoughton)
Commissioner Drielsma reported the subcommittee will meet on November 1, 2010 at
2:30 PM to discuss the Holiday Parade.
Representative Reports
Council Update- Commissioner Vance reported attending Council

Candidate Forums.
Comprehensive General Plan Update Steering Committee- Commissioner
o
Vance provided an update on the committee’s last meeting.
Encinitas Senior Foundation- Commissioner Harp reported the Senior
o
Foundation held their final meeting last week. After all expenses and
reports were finalized, the Foundation will be able to provide the Encinitas
Senior Center Out & About program an additional $5,000.00 donation.
8. NEW BUSINESS
A. Formation of a Senior Citizen Commission Ad Hoc, Web Based Marketing,
Subcommittee
Chair Finch led discussion on forming a subcommittee, to provide recommendations into
the design of the City’s website and the EncinitasRecReg website, so that they are more
senior friendly. Commissioners Campbell and Finch volunteered.
9. COMMISSIONER’S CORNER/ANNOUNCEMENTS
A. Commissioners
Commissioner Drielsma stated his appreciation for the Council Candidate Forum
held at Belmont Village.
Vice-Chair Campbell reported enjoying the Council Candidate Forum at Belmont
Village.
Commissioner Vance commented the venue at Belmont Village is somewhat
restrictive as it was a private event.
B. Staff
Senior Center Manager Goodsell requested Commissioner’s input on receiving agendas
by email. Commission consensus was reached to receive agendas by email.
