YOUTH COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: October 6, 2010
4:30 P.M.
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Vice Chairperson Marow called the meeting to order at 4:34 p.m.
Present: Vice Chairperson Marow, Commissioners Haller, Ferreirae,
Conger, Lawson, Barth, Dempster, Eyl, Maskiewicz, Morales and
Sands.
Also
Present: Senior Management Analyst Stauffer and Administrative
Coordinator Jacklyn Dakovich.

4. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approval of Minutes for Meeting of September 1, 2010.
COMMISSIONER FERREIRAE MOVED, COMMISSIONER BARTH
SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 1, 2010
MEETING. MOTION CARRIED 11-0.
5. OLD BUSINESS
A. Review September Park and Beach Tour
Vice Chairperson Marow reviewed the staff report and encouraged comments
from Commissioners on the September Park and Beach Tour.
Commissioner Eyl enjoyed meeting the other Commissioners and learning about
the various park and beach sites.
Commissioner Ferreirae appreciated the fact that new sites were added to the
tour each year.
Commissioner Barth thought the tour was very interesting and educational.
6. NEW BUSINESS
A. Nomination and Election of Youth Commission Chairperson and Vice
Chairperson.
Vice Chairperson Marow reviewed the staff report and ballots were distributed to
Commission members.
Vice Chairperson Marow opened the meeting to nominations for Vice
Chairperson.
Commissioner Conger nominated Commissioner Ferreirae for Vice Chairperson.
There were no other nominations.
IN CONSENSUS, THE YOUTH COMMISSION ELECTED COMMISSIONER
FERREIRAE VICE CHAIRPERSON FOR 2010-2011 (11-0).
Vice Chairperson Marow opened the meeting to nominations for Chairperson.
Commissioner Haller nominated herself for Chairperson. Commissioner Conger
nominated Vice Chairperson Marow for Chairperson.
Both nominees shared a brief history of their interests and activities during the
past several years and how this information may benefit the Youth Commission.
Vice Chairperson Marow called for the vote by ballot and Commissioner Haller

was elected Chairperson.

7. COMMISSIONER’S CORNER
Chairperson Haller opened the meeting to Commissioner’s Corner.

Commissioner Eyl noted the upcoming 8 Grade dance at St. John School and
Red Ribbon Week.
Commissioner Morales shared information on the new Journalism Club at St.
John School.
Commissioner Dempster advised a Halloween Dance was scheduled at
Diegueno Middle School and also a Spirit Day tee shirt drawing contest was
currently in progress.
Commissioner Sands noted this Friday, October 8, San Dieguito Academy was
holding a Club Fair, and also the upcoming Homecoming Week.
Commissioner Conger reported the Diegueno Middle School magazine drive had
ended and the upcoming ASB Spirit Week.
Commissioner Barth noted the upcoming Canyon Crest Academy Homecoming
Dance, October 27 and a Pep Rally to be held October 8.
Commissioner Lawson advised the La Costa Canyon High School Homecoming
week schedule as well as the Homecoming Dance with theme “The Movies”.
Vice Chairperson Ferreirae reported that Austrian Students have been visiting
the area and San Dieguito Academy. He also noted the upcoming Homecoming
Week, Flag Football Tournament, and the Homecoming Dance with the theme
“Greased Lighting”.
Commissioner Marow noted the upcoming election of San Dieguito Academy
school board members and a presentation by candidates at the Academy,
October 20, 7:00 p.m.
Commissioner Maskiewicz advised the Oakcrest Middle School magazine drive
had ended, and the current tee shirt contest for Spirit Day.
Chairperson Haller reported the San Dieguito Academy Help for the Homeless
Club was hosting a fund raising event with a live band and hypnotist, to be held
October 15 at the Academy Gym 7:00 p.m. - tickets $10.00.
Senior Management Analyst Stauffer distributed flyers on the upcoming Teen
Trip to Knotts Scary Farm and a Cake Decorating class and also a copy of the
final General Plan Update (many Youth Commissioners participated in the
development of the Update).
