Geotechnical Evaluation for Proposed Residential Guesthouse and Garage, 1348 Hymettus Avenue, Encinitas, California, Prepared by GeoTek, Inc., dated August 30, 2004. 2. Addendum Geotechnical Report for Proposed Residential Guesthouse and Garage, 1348 Hymettus Avenue, Encinitas, California, Prepared by GeoTek, Inc., dated March 21, 2005. Dear Mr. and Mrs. LaBelle: In accordance with your request, we have performed geotechnical observation and testing during slope construction and building pad preparation for the areas of proposed residential development at the subject project. These services were performed by a representative of this firm who was on site when requested by the client on July 27 and 28, August 1, 2, 4, and 5, 2005. Fill Slope Construction A keyway for an approximately 6 -foot high fill slope in the western portion of the site was constructed in accordance with the recommendations of the referenced soils reports. The bottom of the keyway was observed to extend a minimum of one (1) foot into suitable formational materials comprising the Terrace Deposits. The exposed keyway bottom was scarified and moisture conditioned prior to placement of select onsite soils that were utilized as compacted fill. The results of our field and laboratory testing indicate that the fill materials were compacted to at least 90 percent relative compaction as determined in accordance with ASTM Test Method D 1557 -00. ARIZONA CALIFORNIA IDAHO NEVADA Mr. and Mrs. LaBelle 8/8/2005 Report of Testing and Observation Services Project No: 2668SD3 1348 Hymettus Avenue Page 2 of 3 Subgrade Preparation for Proposed Building Pads Undocumented fill soils within the proposed building pad areas were removed until relatively competent Terrace Deposits were exposed. The approximate depths of these removals were on the order of 3- to 4 -feet belt vv existing site grades. Upon completion of removal of unsuitable materials in the building pad areas, a cut -fill transition at the proposed subgrade elevation existed. The upper one (1) foot of formational materials in the cut portion of the building pads was over - excavated. Compacted fill materials were then placed in the over - excavated areas until finish pad grades were reached. The exposed removal bottoms were scarified and moisture conditioned prior to placement of compacted fill. The results of our field and laboratory testing indicate that the fill materials were compacted to at least 90 percent relative compaction as determined in accordance with ASTM Test Method D 1557 -00. The results of our field density testing are as follows: Moisture Test Dry Soil Max. Test Relative No. Location Elevation Content Density Type Density Type Compaction (0) 1 Slope Area 84 9.1 124.2 A 136.0 N 91 2 Slope Area 85.5 9.5 122.6 A 136.0 N 90 3 Slope Area 86.5 7.2 125.3 A 136.0 N 92 4 Slope Area 88 8.1 125.9 A 136.0 N 93 5 Slope Face 86 8.4 124.6 A 136.0 N 92 6 Lower (west) 92 8.1 124.0 A 136.0 N 91 Building Pad 7 Lower (west) 93 (FG) 7.0 124.7 A 136.0 N 92 Building Pad 8 Upper (east) 95 8.7 127.9 A 136.0 N 94 Building Pad 9 Upper (east) 96 (FG) 9.2 126.3 A 136.0 N 93 Building Pad Soil A is generally described as a silty sand with an optimum moisture content of 7.5 percent as per ASTM D1557. Based on our observations and testing, it is our opinion that the subgrade for the areas of proposed residential development has been prepared in general accordance with the recommendations of our referenced geotechnical reports. The recommendations contained in our referenced geotechnical reports remain applicable to the project and are included by reference herein. It should be noted that during the foundation excavation phase of construction, deepened foundation excavations may be necessary to allow for the foundations to bear entirely on relatively dense materials comprising the Terrace Deposits. As such, we recommend that a IH Mr. and Mrs. LaBelle 8/8/2005 Report of Testing and Observation Services Project No: 2668SD3 1348 Hymettus Avenue Page 3 of 3 representative of this office observe the foundation excavations prior to concrete placement to check that they extend to adequate bearing materials. We appreciate the opportunity to be of service on this project.
