CALL TO ORDER - INTRODUCTIONS
Council Member Dalager called the meeting to order at 8:02 a.m. Self-introductions were made.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES - MARCH 5, 2009 MEETING
Committee consensus to approve the minutes of the March 5, 2009 meeting.

REGULAR AGENDA
1. PRESENTATIONS FROM PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT:
• TRAILS EVENT IN HONOR OF NATIONAL TRAILS DAY - B. THILL
Encinitas Parks and Recreation Supervisor, Brian Thill, introduced himself to the committee and discussed
an event being planned in honor of Father's Day and National Trails Day, in June. A Day with Dad on the
Trail would take place at Palos Verdes Park on June 20, and would feature a simple trail hike and
coordinated scavenger hunt with informational displays and historical facts to help promote the trails.
Discussion ensued regarding suggestions for historical markers and participants for the event.
• UPCOMING SPRING AND SUMMER CITY EVENTS - N. BUCK
Encinitas Parks and Recreation Supervisor, Nick Buck introduced himself to the committee and offered the
attendees goody bags filled with informational materials from the Parks and Recreation Department. Nick
discussed the Park and Rec. guide and the Encinitas Now newsletter inserts which were included in the
goody bags. Nick made several announcements regarding upcoming special events planned for spring and
summer, including:

• Senior Information Fair, May 7, 2009.

2. INFORMATION SHARING - ALL
Pat Reinhardt with the Encinitas Visitors Center reported on the activity at the Visitors Center and
announced that they have changed their hours. The Visitors Center would now be open 10:00 a.m. to
4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
Committee Secretary Lewis announced that the May 7 Cultural Tourism Committee meeting would be
canceled as the Mayor's 16th Annual Interfaith Community Prayer Breakfast would be taking place that
morning.
Arts Administrator Gilliam reported on the use of the Encinitas Live website by various groups in the
community. He also reported on a training seminar he attended for Constant Contact and recommended it
to the group. Jim discussed the current exhibits on display at the Civic Center and the events taking place
at the Encinitas Library. Jim announced that the Community Grant Program applications were now
available on the city's website and applications would be due on May 28, 2009.

Highway 101 Coordinator, Peder Norby provided an update on the Encinitas Boat Houses. The Encinitas
preservation Association held a one day open house fundraiser while doing some restoration work on the
boat houses. Peder also provided an update on the Cardiff 101 Chamber's new office.

Council Member Dalager announced that Tommy Dempsey may request that his NFL Hall of Fame bust
to be placed in Encinitas.
Sally Foster with Mira Costa College announced they have a new college president, Dr. Francisco
Rodriguez. She reported on the Quintero program taking place on April 15 and the Kids at College
program far third graders. Sally also discussed the San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy's Lagoon Day taking
place on May 16, 2009.
Grace Swanson with the San Dieguito Art Guild discussed the upcoming Mother's Day Art and Garden
Tour taking place on Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10, with a reception at the Off-Track Gallery on
Friday, May 8, 2009. Grace also announced a San Dieguito Art Guild art exhibit on display at the new
Calle Magdalena Gallery located in the City's Public Works facility. There would be an artist's reception
on Apri124 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. for this exhibit.
Paul Davis representing the Encinitas Rotary Club announced that Apri125 would be the all hands Rotary
work day at Quail Botanical Gardens. Paul announced the annual Rotary Wine Festival would be
Saturday, June 6, at Quail Botanical Gardens.

Shari Fortmueller provided an update on the San Dieguito Heritage Museum and announced their
Fundraiser barbeque would be on Saturday, May 16. She also announced they were planning a lima bean
festival which would take place in September.
Dody Tucker with DEMA discussed the annual Encinitas Street Fair taking place on April 25 and 26,
2009 and distributed copies of the new Encinitas Dining Guide.
Grace Madamba with the Lux Art Institute announced the next Lux at Night would be on April 15 from
7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Estate Sale to raise money for their educational programs would be Saturday, April
18 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Summer Art Camp for kids would take place July 6 through August 6,
2009. The next Artist in Residence would feature Scottish artist, Derrick Guild, May 28 through June 20,
2009.
Paula Kirpilani with the Leucadia 101 Mainstreet Association provided an update on the Coast Cruiser
and discussed the sponsorship opportunities available. Paula discussed the Leucadia Farmers Market
which takes place every Sunday at Paul Ecke Central. In May there would be an e-waste recycling event.
Arts Administrator Jim Gilliam announced the Encinitas Garden Festival was taking place in Cardiff on
April 25. He also announced that the Del Mar Fair was looking for local musicians to participate in a
banner photo shoot as part of the music theme this year.
