CALL TO ORDER - INTRODUCTIONS
Dan Dalager called the meeting to order at 8:06 a.m. Self introductions were made.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES - SEPTEMBER 4, 2008 MEETING
Committee consensus to approve the minu,tes of the September 4, 2008 meeting.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
None.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
John McIsaac with Self-Realization Fellowship reported that they were working with DEMA to carve and
display pumpkins at three or four sites for the Downtown Ericinitas Safe Trick-or-Treat event to be held
on Halloween from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. He reported that the businesses would stay open late that evening,
there would be a costume contest at E Street Cafe and there would be live music for kids atthe
Lumberyard.
Grace Swanson with the Off-Track Gallery reported that they had a new calendar which would be sold
through the gallery. She also reported that they were starting an artist's reeeption in the gallery foyer on
the second Friday of every other month. Crrace distributed a handout detailing upcoming events. There
would be a watercolor demonstration featuring artist Richard Hawk on Thursday, November 6th from 1:30
to 3:30 p:m. at Quail Botanical Gardens. The event would be free and open to the public.

Shari Fortmueller with the San Dieguito Heritage Museum distributed flyers and announced that they
would have their Fall Festival from 11:00 a.m. to 3;00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25th featuring antique
appraisals and gift and craft booths.
Shari reported that their site master plan was turned into the city for approval. She also reported that they
d'esigned a new school field trip program for third graders. The field trips would be done as a tour
through the museum and would include hands on Native American and early settler activities which were
all designed around learning about life in the early days.
Sally Foster with Mira Costa College reported that their LIFE - Learning is for Everyone, program was
off and running again. The program was geared toward seniors and was held at the college on Fridays at
1:00 P.M.
Sally also announced that there would be a Candidates Forum on October 28th. She distributed flyers and
stated that the event would be co-sponsored by Mira Costa College and the Encinitas Chamber o£
Commerce, with help from the California League of Women Voters. She also reported that Mira Costa
would turn 75 this year and there would be several celebrations coming up.
Dody Tucker with DEMA reported on the Safe Trick-or-Treat event in downtown Encinitas.
She also discussed their standing-room only fashion show event.
Janelle Vesci with the Encinitas Chamber and Visitors center reported on the Chamber's annual
Oktoberfest celebration. Janelle also announced that on Tuesday, October 21 st the Encinitas Chamber
and Visitors Center would host the Sundowner event in celebration of their one year anniversary in the
new downtown location,
Julian Duval with Quail Botanical Garderis distributed several flyers and announced that their
International Orchid Fair would be that weekend, starting at 1:00 p.m. on Friday and going through
Sunday, October Sth. On October 18th & 19th they would host their Annual Fall Plant Sale.
Teresa Barth reported that the city streetscape workshops were ongoing and discussed the upcoming
Candidate's Forum at Mira Costa College.
Paula Kirpalani with Leucadia 101 Mainstreet Association reported on their recent Art Walk event, She
provided an update on the North Coast Highway 101 Streetscape Workshop held the'night befor,e and
reported that the next streetscape workshop was scheduled for November 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Leucadia 101's next big event would be Leucadia Nights on Saturday, October 18th. The businesses
would stay open late and surf movies would be featured in the park.
Grace Madamba with the Lux Art Institute welcomed everybody to the Lux Art Institute as the meeting
was hosted at their facility. She announced that their monthly Lux at Night event would be on October
1 Sth from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. featuring artist Ray Smith. She stated that the events were open to the public
and were sponsored by the Community Grant program.

REGULAR AGENDA
1. TOUR OF LUX ART INSTITUTE FACILITIES- G. MADAMBA
The group was joined by Reese Shaw with Lux Art Institute who distributed several handouts and
provided an in-depth history and mission of the Lux Art Institute. Reese discussed the background of the
featured artist, Ray Smith, as well as the on-site facilities of the Lux Art Institute and their future
development plans. Following her presentation, the group was led on a tour of the gallery, including the
private artist's residence.
