PRESENT: Council Member Dan Dalager, Arts Administrator Jim Gilliam, Allyson
Evers, Nan Sterman, Paul Davis, Joe Koch, Pat Hammer, John McIsaac, Chuck Ades,
Dave Oakley, Mary Fran Riggs, ShariFortmueller and Committee Secretary Zenns.
CALL TO ORDER - INTRODUCTIONS
Council Member Dalager called the meeting to order at 8:35 a.m. Self-introductions
were made.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES - JANUARY 4, 2007 MEETING

REGULAR AGENDA
1. PURPOSE OF THE CULTURAL TOURISM COMMITTEE
_ Agenda Item 1 was continued to the Apri15, 2007 meeting.
2. 5UBCOMMITTEE REPORTS:
• Historic Mission Bells - Council Member Dan Dalager reported that the City
had received the plaques and staff would be installing them shortly, .
• Encinitas Live (NEA Grant Website Project - Arts Administrator Jim Gilliam
reported that the Encinitas Live website homepage had been developed by the
website design firm, Lyon & Associates. He indicated that the website would

interactive and "live," The homepage would include items such as the current
weather conditions and surf report. The committee anticipates that the website
would be online by Apri12007.
• Garden Festival - Nan Sterman reported that the Garden Festival would take
place on Saturday, Apri121, 2007 in the community of Olivenhain.
• Operation Homecoming - Council Member Dalager reported on the upcoming
Operation Homecoming event. The National Endowment for the Arts would be
holding the West-coast Premiere of the Operation Homecoming Documentary
narrated by Kevin Costner. The event was scheduled for April 28, 2007 at the La
Paloma Theater. The event would include a question and answer period with the
co-authors, editor, and director.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Arts Administrator Gilliam announced that a Poetry Slam would be held tonight at the La
Paloma Theater.
Council Member Dalager announced and the committee agreed that future meetings
would begin at 8:00 a.m,
Mary Fran Riggs reported that the organization was in the process of relocating to their
new site on Quail Gardens Drive. She also noted that the Deep Pit Barbecue would soon
take place at their new location.
Julian Duval announced that the Quail Botanical Gardens was experiencing success with
their memberships. He also noted that in May, there would be an art display in the
bamboo.garden.
Pat Hammer announced the following upcoming events at the Quail Botanical Gardens:
February 3rd and 18th - Their Undersea Succulent Garden would be featured on HGTV.
February 10 - Hearts, Flowers and Bugs actieity for young children.
February 14 - Free admission for active military.
March: Study of Trees and Study of Palms courses.
Paul Davis announced the following: The rotary was hosting a"Dancing with Heroes"
event to take place on Apri1 21st; the San Elijo Lagoon boardwalk was installed; and on
March 13, the State of the City Address at the Community Center would take place.
Council Member Dalager announced that the Environmental Impact Report on the Hall
Property was complete and now open for public comment.

Dave Oakley announced that the Encinitas Senior Follies would take place on February
11 at the La Paloma Theater with proceeds benefiting the Encinitas Senior Center.
Allyson Evers with the Encinitas Chamber and Visitors Center announced the following:
The center would holding a Volunteer Fair at Mira Costa College in Oceanside; and the
next Sundowner would be held on February 13 at Herman Cook Volkswagen,
Chuck Ades announced that square dance classes would begin this week at the Encinitas
Community Center.
