Mayor Houlihan called the meeting to order at 11:04 A.M.
~ APPROVAL OF MINUTES - AUGUST 24, 2004 MEETING
Sub-committee consensus to approve the minutes of the August 24, 2004 meeting.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Lloyd O'Connell reported that the oral histories training session took place on September 16,
2004 at the Old School House. He indicated that he had begun recording some of the histories
from local residents.
AGENDA ITEM
1. DATABASE SUBCOMMITTEE -REVIEW AND DISCUSSION OF
WEBSITES
Billy Stern led the sub-committee in its review and discussion of websites with the purpose to
obtain ideas to develop the History without Walls (HWOW) website. Various websites were
downloaded for the group to view. Some of the websites contained very basic text and graphics,
while others contained more complex graphics, animation, links and interactive capabilities.

As the websites were reviewed, the group cited some elements that they would want considered
when developing the HWOW website. Some of these elements included:
■ Size and scale of the flash page/home page
■ Search features
■ Index to key words or topics
■ Interactive historical timeline
■ Active animation and video
■ Copyright issues
■ Navigational toolbar
■ Color contrasting
■ Image driven vs. text driven
■ Audio on/off button
It was decided that the group would further discuss what type of informational design
elements/key elements to include in the HWOW website. Additionally, the group would
consider locating a college intern to assist with the design and set up of the website.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
1. Presentation of the History without Walls Preservation Resource Brochure.
2. Update on the Highway 101 Oral Histories Project.
3. Review and discussion of websites.
