2001-11-15 CITY OF ENCINITAS ACTION NIINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE ENCINITAS CULTURAL TOURISM AND FLORAI. HERITAGE COMIVIITTEE November 15, 2001 Present: Mayor Dennis Holz, Council Member Maggie Houlihan, City Manager Kerry Miller, Chuck Ades, Julian Duval, Paul Davis, John Mclsaaic, Sherry Hamilton, Lynn Love, Kirsten Richter, )im Clark, Carolyn Cope, Joe Koch, Cyd Shaw, and Larna Martin. DIRECTION/ACTION Call to Order Council Member Houlihan called the meeting to order at 8:11 a.m. Announcements Self-introductions and the following announcements were made: Julian Duval, with Quail Botanical Gardens, announced that the gardens is having their Annual Garden of Lights on December 7-9, 14-23, and 26-30 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Also, they axe looking for volunteers to assist with putting up the lights and also help people roast their marshmallows during the event. Prioritization of Next Year's Goals City Manager Kerry Miller briefly reviewed the list of goals developed at the October 18, 2001 meeting. Each of the committee members then chose four of the goals that they believe the group should devote most of their time to during the next year. Chairpersons were also selected to head up each goal. The following is the revised list of goals and chairpersons: • Flower Tour - Chuck Ades and Evelyn Weidner • FAM Trip with NCTD - Sherry Hamilton/Encinitas Chamber of Commerce. • Inventory of al the Community Conference Rooms - Sherry Hamilton/Encinitas Chamber of Commerce. • Visitars Center Referral Service and Enhancement of the Visitors Center - Julian Duval. • Visitor/Economic Impact and Demand Survey/Study - Peder Norby/DEMA. • El Camino Real Banner Program - Arlene Betti and Carolyn Cope. Sherry Hamilton, President of the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce, noted that the FAM trip is already in the works. Ms. Hamilton, Peder Norby, and Julian Duval are spear heading it. The plans are to have it in early Spring, before the Flower Tour takes place. Ms. Hamilton also noted that the Visitors Center has updated their Visitors Referral book. Ora1 Communications Ms. Hamilton reported that the Visitors Center is working on "City of Encinitas" pins, sweatshirts, T-shirts, and mugs for purchase at the center. They hope to have the items available on Sunday for the Poinsettia Festival. Discussion of Future Agenda Items 1) Report from sub-committee chairpersons on the scope of what the goal entails and the tools necessary to achieve the goaL Next Regular Meeting December 20, 2001 Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 8:45 a.m. to the new Community and Senior Center for a mini tour with Dave Wigginton, Director of Community Services.
