ACTION MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF
THE ENCINITAS CULTURAL TOURISM AND FLORAL HERITAGE COMMITTEE
May 17, 2001
Present: Mayor Dennis Holz, City Manager Kerry Miller, Peder Norby, Carolyn Cope, Chuck Ades, Paula Kirpalani, Evelyn Weidner; Julian Duval, John Mclsaaic, Marietta
Rogers, Fred Caldwell, Robert Mance, Joe Koch, Lynn Love.

Mayor Holz called the meeting to order at 8:13 a.m.
Call to Order
Self-introductions and the following announcements were made:
Announcements
Marietta Rogers indicated that the Children's Discovery Museum's Summer Exhibit opens this
weekend. It will run from May 19t" through September 9, 2001.
Caxolyn Cope announced that the Arts Alive Banner Auction is taking place. Individuals can
participate in person or on-line. Bidding will take place on June 1, 2001 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Ms. Cope also indicated that the. San Dieguito Heritage Museum is having a deep pit barbecue on
June 2, 2001 from noon to 5:00 p.m.
Paula Kirpalani announced the Herb Festival at the Quail Botanical Gardens on June 16'' and 17`h
Also, tickets are on sale for the Summer Concert Series.
ITEM # 1 Chuck Ades gave an update on the flower tour -"The Encinitas Flower Celebration" which will take
Update on the Flower Tour place on June 9th and 10`h. He indicated the following progress has been made:
• The bank account, insurance, bus tour, parking have been established;
~ A banner will be displayed a week prior to the event
• Speakers, flower demonstrations, and a book signing;
• The booths at the "Open Air Market Place" cost $100 and they have commitments from various
groups;
• Ticket sales and publicity are being handled by Evelyn Weidner;
• Carolyn Cope is coordinating the volunteers. They currently have 60 volunteers but are hoping to
have 100.
Mr. Ades concluded by indicated that in the future, he would like to make this event more of a
cityvvide event by having multiple events taking place on the same weekend.

Roundtable Discussion
ITEM #3 Roberf Mance with the Guild stated that there is a merchandiser who would like to organize a one day
Oral Communications outdoor European event revolving around a culture, food, heritage theme.
Carolyn Cope noted that the Arts Commission Master Plan Subcommittee is meeting tonight. The
survey has been conducted.
Fred Caldwell noted that the "Encinitas Map" is now available.
Discussion of Future Agenda Items 1) Debriefing on the Encinitas Flower Celebration.
