ITEM # 1 Council Member Houlihan reported that the subcommittee chairpersons presented reports to the City Sub-committee Reports Council Members at the January 24`i', 2001, City Council Meeting and the reports were well received. The chairpersons then gave an update on their subcommittees as follows: Peder Norby reported that his presentation to the City Council focused on the main goals/ideas the group has been working on including: the Encinitas Sign, Streetscape, parking, and walkable communities/Lagoon to Lagoon sidewalks. His goal was to show the Council Members how the City will benefit from their efforts. Mr. Norby noted that the City Council Members have authorized the funds necessary to put the Encinitas Sign back up. The cable system on the original sign did not work. The sign will now be placed on a truss. The sign may be back up by the end of March. Chuck Ades reported that his group is working on the Nursery/Flower Tour with the wholesale growers and Quail Botanical Gardens. A trolley service will be available for the tour, which will also allow tourists to make stops at the downtown shops and restaurants. The tour will likely take place in ITEM # 1 (continued) July. Mr. Ades noted that most wholesalers lose money during an event like this and it will be very importanf to get "seed money" in order to keep the event going. Evelyn Weidner added that funding from the City is necessary and it is what is holding them back from proceeding. She believes that ~ $10,000 would suffice; however, $15,000 will give them a"pad." Bob Bonde noted that TOT money is a possible funding source. Peder Norby added that the tour presents a great opportunity for sponsorships from various vendors in the industry as well as service groups in the community. City Manager Miller indicated that the request for $15,000 in seed money will go before the City Gouncil on February 28, 2001. He would like Mr. Norby and Mr. Ades to work on an estimate for tickets/costs which could be used for the staff report. Carolyn Cope reported that the Arts Alive Banners are now on display along Highway 101. Also, the Children's Art Gallery opened last weekend at the 101 Gallery. The opening went very well. It was noted that Vanessa Williams was not able to attend the meeting due to other commitments. It is possible that Paula Kirpalani will be replacing her as the subcommittee chair.
