how the group works with the City to accomplish those obj ectives.
Mr. Miller indicated that sub-committee chairpersons will have approximately five minutes to give an
overview of their sub-committee. It was noted that chairperson Mark Skok is unable to participate
with the committee. Therefore, Mr. Skok's subcommittee was combined with Mr. Norby's.

her sub-committee. She is searching for someone to replace her. Ms. Williams indicated that she will

The sub-committee chairpersons gave an outline of what they intend to present to the City Council on
'
ITEM # 2(continued) January 24, 2001 and they also received input from the group.
Ms. Williams discussed the following points that she will cover in her presentation: the development
of the website, the creation of an insert for the brochure, and the production of a videa ' Mr. Miller
noted that it is important to let the City Council lmow about the work done on the City's website and
the Chamber's website. Mayor Holz noted that, in reference to the production of a video, the City
Council should know about the reseaxch done on finding ways to cut costs and limit the content of the
video. Robert Mance noted that Ms. Williams should also let the City Council know about all the
work done in creating the Encinitas Brochure and how the brochure has been used since its creation.
Jerry Brooks added that it should also be noted that the brochure is "certified" which means that it is
distributed Countywide. Ms. Williams indicated that she will also let the City Council know that an
: insert for the brochure is one of the goals of her sub-committee.
Peder Norby discussed the following points that he will cover in his presentation: the installation of
the Encinitas Sign, the implementation of the Streetscape Plan, efforts made in solving the parking
situation, and efforts made in getting the Lagoon to Lagoon path developed. All of these projects are
joint efforts with this cominittee and the City. Mr. Duval noted that the presentation should also
include efforts made in focusing on maintaining the ambiance of the community. Mr. Mance added
that the efforts made with signage in the City should also be included in the presentation.
Carolyn Cope reported that she will cover in her presentation the various joint efforts made with the
Cominission for the Arts in creating a higher level of awareness of art throughout the community.
Chuck Ades reported that he will let the Council Members know about all the work being done in
developing and organizing the flower tour. The tentative date is July 28, 2001. The tour will be of
five to eight nurseries with Quail Botanical Gardens as the starting point and trolleys running every
30 minutes. Ms. Weidner noted that it is important to note that the wholesale nurseries will receive
little benefit from their participation in the tour and that seed money will likely be needed. Mr. Ades
concurred and added that the wholesalers lose money on these types of events. Mayor Holz indicated
that a dollax figure needs to be deternuned and that Mr. Ades should discuss this with the City
Manager. Mayor Holz added that we should look at ways for the wholesalers to make money from the
event perhaps by having items available for the tourists to purchase. Council Member Houlihan
suggested that items such as T-shirts and tote bags be made available for purchase.
Mr. Miller concluded by noting that he would like everyone involved with each sub-committee
identified.
ITEM #3 Mayor Holz indicated that the idea of changing the name of the committee came up a few weeks ago.
The idea stemmed from several issues. One issue is that the committee used to be lrnown as the
Discuss Possible Name Change for the Committee Flower Growers and Business Liaison Committee and there was some interest in reviving this in
some form. Another issue is that we need to define a broader scope to identify all the areas with
which the committee is involved.
ITEM #3 (continued) Mr. Miller noted that the name should describe the committee's function. He added that this is the
only forum sponsored by the City where the business sector can get together on a regular basis.
After a group discussion with suggestions and ideas for the new committee name, the group decided
that the new name of the commitfee is "The Encinitas Cultural Tourism and FZoYaI Heritage
Committee. "
